Ig9447 Most of the time the short is either the actual coils around the wick touching or the wires need to be cut at the bottom where it screws in,In my case its usually where it screws in, the negative and positive leg wires have to be snipped off completely.Great diagram, I actually like it.

Thanks that did the trick! New coils and wicks work like a charm. The diagram was sourced from a google search, but you're right it's very helpful. Thanks again.

Where is the best place to get cotton wicks/yarn etc that don't have dyes in it. Also is there a certain size you need? Do you replicate the number of cotton wicks in a vivi that uses silica

This video here should be the definitive tutorial in rebuilding a coil,it is for a vivi nova but the Kanger is identical.I do everything here except using a screw,I use the end of a blunt syringe instead. He talks about the yarn and what kind,But it is peaches and cream #4 yarn (white kind)Which I think is unbleached and can be purchased I believe anywhere but I get it at walmart, and I boil mine for 30 min and let dry.It is nice wicks because you cut a piece and pull 4 small strands from it and use the 4, But you can learn from the vid so please check it out.

And if u can't find it & are real frugal, just ask the butcher shop, they'll probably give u a few feet for the asking. Seeing the size needed on the kangers, that should last 5 years. :)

Anyone know if Amazon.com: Norpro Stainless-Steel Holder with Cotton Cooking Twine, 220 feet: Kitchen & Dining will work? I like that it comes in something to keep it organized... can't find it locally, I'm probably not looking in the right place and the dude at Target looked at me like "what".

That holder is cool! I was at Tractor Supply yesterday and found THIS.

Says 100% cotton butchers twine. Looks legit, unlike some "cotton" cord that I found at Ace Hardware. Haven't messed with it yet, but it should work.

A holder like that would be good for storing most of it. You could boil a foot, dry it, and throw that in a zip-lock bag to put in the fridge. Should keep it somewhat sanitized and ready to go.

I have rebuilt 20 or so coils so far. I have always used 5 wraps. The issue I have been having is my juice is turning color with in a day and the taste gets pretty bad. When i disassemble the coils there a chard mess. I am using the same wick and wire thats in the op. If I use anything less then 4 watts I dont get the vapor hit that I want. I just wrapped a coil with 4 wraps and using less then 4 watts and so far so good.

Any tips why my 5 wraps arent doing what others are doing? I have a volt/ohm meter. How can I test the ohms on the coil with it? Do I go from coil to the metal plug on the bottom?

I took apart one of the heads yesterday to fiddle with it.

Already have the kanthal wire, found a great pair of padded jewelry pliers so I don't scratch up the posts anymore than I did trying to get it out of there.

Butcher string on order...

... then I shall attempt to burn down the house. Bwahahahahaha.
(not really, but ya know... I can try!)

Sounds like your coils may be either too tight & burning the wick, or not spaced evenly, perhaps overlapping, & creating a hot spot that then burns your wick. Measure ohms from the bottom center pin to the side of the head assembly.

Used the same coil for almost a week, 4 wraps, all 4 burn nearly instant. It was time again to recoil all my heads this weekend. I did all but one with 4 wraps. I test all my heads before I put them back and with 4 wraps the coils seem to heat way faster, and more even. The one wrap with 5 heated up nice, just not as fast.

Maybe its my juice, 70/30 from tasty vapors. maybe i vape to much. maybe I take to long of a hit...

This stuff is decent:

Amazon.com: Square Braided Cotton Wick #2/0 (10 Yards): Arts, Crafts & Sewing

$2 for 30 ft.......cotton wick should be boiled 15 minutes prior to using it.

So I did two kinds of rebuilds with cotton... 1 with the normal size wick and coil and a strand laying on top of the coil (just like the stock wick and coil). The other one I made a larger than stock coil with a thicker wick and no wick laying on top of the coil.

I found that I like the rebuild that is similar to the stock build with the smaller wick and coil and a single strand laying on top. It may be all in my head but I found the throat hit to be slightly better and the flavor was also slightly better.

I agree, i tried with and with out the extra piece on top and found a better hit. I also found that it floods with out it.

I've been having a problem recently.

The top of the rubber grommet has been burning against the wire and I'm getting a burnt taste. I don't want to use nr wire, that's why I sold my terminator. Any ideas?

Happens to me sometimes too and, like you, I don't want to use nr wire. So instead I bought some extra of those little rubber grommets .. you can get a 10-pack of them at kidneypuncher.

Awesome thank you, is this grommet toast? I've tried two different builds on it and I still get the burnt taste. It has burn marks on it but I figure it shouldn't effect the vape if I build it right.

Once they've got a lot of brown from burning on them then yes, they're toast as far as I'm concerned. If it's just a little brown dot then I keep using them, but once there's more brown marks I have to toss them. It happens to me if the resistance on my coils is too low or if I have my voltage set too high .. so I try to keep both of those things set more in the "middle", then I don't get any grommet burning.

Good deal! I wonder if the vivi grommets are the same heh.
I Must of had it set too high.

I see grommets on KP but not for the kangers :(
