So basically I used the rba section for about 4-5 months, but I got sick and tired of having to change the wicking material ever 2-3 days. I'd often get dry hits and the flavour wasn't all that. I always made 0.5ohm coils sometimes lower.

I use a sigeli 100w box.

I have now gone back to purchasing the OCC coils on my 2nd day with the occ no dry hits doesn't seem to need changing any time soon.

Anyone got any advice for the wicking material and wires i have. I have a RBA clone but i rarely use that as icba to keep dripping.

Only thing i can do really is save it incase i ever go back to rebuilding.

Such a shame.

Get a lemo 2 and rebuild that lol... You should try cellucotton it lasts a lot longer than cotton and is so cheap. Like a thousand yards for 15 bucks cheap.

Or make wick necklaces and sell them at the flea market?

I don't need a new tank love my kanger subtank.

Have so much cotton as well would be silly to get more.

I just started using the rba. Been using occs for a few months. I get more dry hits, and it doesn't last nearly as long. I mean yeah it's cheaper that way for sure, but I'm not sure if the hassle and dry hits I get are worth it. I get a couple weeks minimum from an occ for a couple bucks. Maybe the new rba is better.

I have 3 STm's that I use the RBA deck in. I build them all with 1.2Ω coils (28g 7wrap 2.5mmID spaced) and vape them at 22 to 23 watts. I really like the vape, nice clouds, good flavor, no popping and no dry hits. Basic wicking, nothing fancy, but that is definitely where the difference maker can be. Finding the right amount, pushing it down without compressing it too much (leaving it a bit fluffy), and pulling it off the juice channels has always produced perfect results for me. I can always tell if my wick moves and covers the juice channels, which it does every now and then.

I have more watts to throw at the Sub Tanks if I wanted to, I don't build the 1.2Ω coils out of necessity, but vaping the STm's at higher volts as opposed to higher watts has always proved to be a better experience for me....YMMV.

If you have THICK ejuice you may well get dry hits. 70/30 or higher they have issues with this. Kanger has updated their RBA's three times so far.
The first is just a notch under the rba cap.
The second is a notch through the screw threads and part of the RBA Cap.
The current version is no notch at all but a large hole cut in the sides.
I had the second and now the third versions. My thick juice was having this issue as well I took a small drill bit and drilled two holes above the notches in the center of the RBA cap. Even with 80 and 90% VG I have yet to get a dry hit since doing that.

I much prefer the RBA section over the OCC coils in my STM. I bought 26g wire.. 5 or 6 wraps comes out to .8 ohms at 16w is perfection for me. I change my wick like once a week, change coil like once a month. I do have a dripper also but don't use it because a tank is much more convenient. I want to get a new RTA tank with 4 post holes like a UT Goblin so I can build dual coil in a tank. Using a dremel to make the juice holes bigger is a good idea, and also the pan cake wicking method that someone suggested is worth looking up on youtube too. Remember, the Subtank Mini runs better at lower watts, I stay between 14w and 25w, no problems. More watts doesn't mean more vapor or flavor. My setup is producing at 16w! Your box goes to 100w so turning it down to around 15w might make you feel like your not getting your $$ worth or not vaping to full potential but the STM is just made to run at low watts. Plus, it will greatly improve battery life and juice consumption vaping at 1/5th of the power of your mod.

  • 0.5 sub-ohm (15-30W range)
  • 1.2 ohms (12-25W range)
I'm chain vaping my 26ga 3mm .66Ω coil with KGD at 23W with 60VG with no spitting

I chain vaped it at 35-40W when I built it until I got dizzy with no dry hits but it's hot & spitty over 30W
22-23W is my STM happy place. Much more civilized and still good vapor/flavor.

EDIT - I'm using the upgraded Subox RDA.
My V1 RDA needs modding to get over 20W.
I'm going to use The Don's method. It should act similar to the new, improved Subox RDA :2c:
