I just bought a Subtank Mini yesterday and have used the 0.5 included OCC head for a couple hours and wasn't that impressed so decided to wick up the rba section. So, my question is...is there any RIGHT way to save this head for a later use such as soak in grain alcohol, or is it even done for if it dries out? Thanks for any advice.

It's completely rebuildable so you could throw it out on your lawn for a while, clean it up and put in a new wick and coil and it'd be almost brand new. No need to baby it.

And personally, I find it easier to rebuild the OCC than it is to dick .... I just rebuilt my subtank ...

If you rebuild then rebuild them.
For me
I use 26g 3mm 5.5 wraps slightly spaced. You want the coil to be at least the same length as the top hole in the casing.
I use kgd with the two outer layers taken off then cut a strip 12-15mm wide. roll it up and thread it through the case and coil. Its tight but been good for me.
Cut the wick about 2mm from the outside of the case then gently tuck it into the holes.
Should be a slight bulge inside the casing from the end of the coils to the inside wall of the casing.
You want your coil and the holes in the casing to be as straight as possible. Use a drill bit or similar through the holes and through your coil to hold it in place you you put back on the grommet and pin.
Check the resistance and everything is good then put some liquid on the coil and on the wick ends in the holes of the casing and go vape.

This is mine wicking on a rebuilt OCC.

I think the original question pertained to how to store old coils for future use. Just soak it in vodka and let it dry out. Even if you don't clean the coil, storing it in a clean pill bottle works fine. The coil isn't going to mold or anything. Just to be safe, I'd do the vodka/everclear/grain soak overnight, then let it dry out.
