Tried pulling out the post a bit more and that didn't do anything. As soon as I screw on a new coil it works fine which leads me to think it is the coils that are bad. I appreciate the suggestions. Your post that these are from a bad Batch of coils from last year makes sense. If these are being phased out then it would be logical that I get remaining Stock. My regular Vendor doesn't even carry them any longer so went to different sites to buy these coils.

The problem started early last year. All the bad heads were supposed to be replaced by the manufacturers by April or so last year. That issue is what caused me to look into rebuildable atomizers with coil screws for fastening the coil to the head. I tried several and finally settled on the EHPRO Kayfun 3.1.

Now, I'm looking at the Kayfun 4 because it has both adjustable juice feed to compensate for viscosity as well as widely adjustable air flow. You can also replace the wick and coil without draining the tank. You just invert the head, unscrew the coil body, screw down a new coil, replace the wick, and then screw the coil body back in place. There's no rubber grommet to deal with. A coil can last a couple of months and you just replace the wick twice a week.

The segmented wire that is used in Kanger and Aspire coils is designed to only be resistive in the center. That way it doesn't get hot on the ends where the wire is pressed against the insulating sleeve. They don't want us vaping rubber smoke!

The problem was that the silver solder used to connect the ends to the center was melting. The only good way to do that is by wire welding. I guess they thought that the coils only lasted a few days and soldering was sufficient. That was obviously wrong thinking, especially for engineers who should know better.
