I have been using the Protank II on my iTaste SVD for a week now. It looks real well with the iTaste, better than the supplied iClear 30s but boy does it require different voltage/wattage settings. I know it is a bottom coil feeder and using it even close to the same settings as the iClear 30 caused the wicks to burn creating an ink-like drop inside the tank. I used it with this rather thin eJuice and if I was going anywhere near 4.0 V it would burn up creating a caramel-burnt taste and darkening the ejuice. This is with the 2.6 Ohms coil head that comes supplied with the Protank.

I bought a 5 pack coil heads replacement @ 1.5 Ohms (SVD displays it @ 1.6 Ohms) and now don't go past 3.3 V and no more burnt taste or eJuice discoloration. Is that a normal voltage range for a 1.6 Ohms coil with a Protank II? What would be a low range if I wanted to try to switch to VW? After my less-than-perfect experienced with burning I'm feeling a little hesitant to chain vape.

My overall impressions compared to the iClear 30 is that it does have a more airy draw (which I don't mind) a cooler vape, and I do taste a little more flavor. Too bad I burnt a coil while trying to find the safe voltage range.

I'm vaping on some Unicorn Blood right now @ 3.3 V with a 1.6 Ohms coil and so far so good. I love that you can simply disassemble the tank and rinse it out when switching to a new flavor. I just run the wicks under warm water and let it sit submerged in it for a little while. Do you usually remove the wicks all together and clean them differently when switching flavors? What are your voltage/wattage settings with the Protank? Thanks in advance!

2.2ohms, and I use 4.0to 4.2Vs depending on the juice. Lower Vg, higher Pg, lower Volts. Higher Vg vs Pg, higher volts. Just me.

You may have something there. The juice looked very thin and diluted so I'd guess that the PG concentration is fairly high. Maybe that was too much Volts for it.

Give variable wattage a try. Start at about 6W and increase until you find your sweet spot.

The benefit to variable wattage is that if you use a coil with a different resistance you won't have to play with the settings much, if at all.

I vape unicorn blood in my PT-II with a 2.5 coil at 3.6-4.4v. haven't played around much yet with variable wattage yet but I'd like to. I've found with most of my juices, the protank works better at the high end of voltage for my wicks with heavy draws, big flavor.

I don't clean mine any different than you do, I run it under hot water until the wick is clear again, then blow it out and dry it all off :)

I forgot to mention the instructional sheet that comes with the Protank II.

1.7 - 1.9 Ω = 3.1 - 3.3 V = 5.5 Watts
2.1 - 2.3 Ω = 3.4 - 3.7 V = 5.7 W
2.4 - 2.6 Ω = 3.8 - 4.1 V = 6.2 W
2.6 - 3.0 Ω = 4.1 - 4.5 V = 6.6 W

Still doesn't explain why I messed up the coil and juice with the stock 2.6 Ω coil @ 4.0 V but I'll chalk it up to the eJuice.
Updated chart to show Watts (median average)

The size of the coil filament makes a difference too. I don't know the details of these coils, but in short...

If the wire is small, it may get hotter, but cool off faster.
If the wire is bigger, it may not get quite as hot, but should retain a steadier temperature, as the cool juice wicks to it.

It's really trial and error. This is why I think VWs are a waste; you may still need to make an adjustment, if you use a different coil, which is what the VW s were "designed" to avoid. It just doesn't work that way, but to be fair, if all your coils are pretty much the same, it's a great gizmo.

I can explain.................. No time to Break in.
Always start on the low end and work up. this way you find the sweet spot or notice some burning rather than getting a mouth fukk of Yuck.
After a tank or 2 you may notice you can crank it higher. New wick = start over. :)

just got a zmax v5 in the mail like an hour ago, been browsing this thread. I found a sweet spot that im going to stay on for the day to see if it works out. Im using the VW and have it set to 7.5W on a kanger pro tank 2 @2.6Ohms which comes out to ~4.4V. GREAT flavor. only qualm with the whole set up is the air flow. i like a really airy flow and on my eGO the protank can do it but if i keep it screwed loose enough for the flow i like on the Zmax its a bit wobbly... may be either the male or female threads on either need something... going to experiment later

When things get gunked up with the Pro Tank wick/coil I usually rinse, dry, dry burn, rinse, dry and it's back to normal. I was using the 2.2 ohms but went to 1.8 ohm because the 1.8 gives me more flavor. I run the 1.8 from 3.7 to 4.0 volts without any burnt taste. Another thing about Kanger coils I noticed , is that the ohms read higher than advertised. I have had some 2.2 coils read up to 2.5 ohms on my device but the usually run 2 ohms higher than advertised . At first I thought it was my device so I put an Aspire 1.8 coil on and it was right on the money reading 1.8. These things are massed produced so your bound to run into issues once in a while. I'm saving all my burnt coil heads to rebuild soon. If you ever get bored, pull out the main wick on one of the pro tank coils and slip a piece of organic cotton in. Nice cloud chaser.
