Got the mini a couple days ago. My first subtank. Built on RDA's prior. I like this tank. Not the vapor volume that I enjoy on my RDA's, but the vapor is sufficient and quite flavorful. I think I will bore out the juice channels some for greater flow to the wick. More juice flow to provide for longer draws and this tank will be golden.

I'm having a hard time making a consistent wick for my RBA. I've tried several methods that I've seen in pics here and on Youtube. I'm currently using the .5 ohm coil that was supplied with the kit. I've tried de-skinning both sides of the Japanese cotton and cutting the wick even with the deck and it just doesn't want to keep up. I got the most consistency using a "Kayfun" style wick with Japanese cotton cut about 5mm wide and de-skinned one side with thinned ends then stuffed lightly. When the RBA is working it's great but wicking has been frustrating! Can someone explain "chunky wicking" to a newbe? I've been primarily using 70VG/30PG.

Pack the wick in your coil tighter then you would do on your kayfun. If it feels to tight, it might be just right. Then, what I do, is diagonally cut the tails down to almost a point
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

Are you stuffing the wick "Kayfun bunny ears" or cutting it so that it just lays on the deck? Also are you removing the skin from the cotton?

I've been removing one side of the skin, and I cut the tails so the tip just reaches the deck, wet with juice and press against the wall, screw on chimney top, fluff up wick with a needle but ensuring juice channels are clear. Chain vaping 90/10 vg/pg at 25-30 watts with no dry hits, and this is the first run ST mini with the smaller juice channels, unmodified.

I'm way behind in this thread. Are coils in the pics considered 5 wraps? If so, I need help counting my coils. Thanks
Well...5 wraps of 26g Kanthal around a 5/64 bit. Came out to, again, .4ohm. I wouldn't want to cram any more coil in there, that's for sure lol

This is PRECISELY what I'm doing. Wicking 85 and 90 VG like a champ @ 27.5 watts-30watts.

edit: Worth noting, my mini has the full drilled through channels, but I believe this is what MOST people have. Unless there has been ANOTHER revision I might've missed.

It's hard to tell, pics are a bit blury, but it looks like a 5 wrap parallel
Edit: If it's not a parallel, then it's not a 5 wrap :p

Hey fellas and welcome. That was a properly executed and oxidized tensioned twisted lead parallel I posted early in the thread. It's based on using strain to wind rather than hand wind and torch. That was the 1st gen coil which jimbo reproduced faithfully. It's not a beginners build but easy to do with tension and a pin vise. Have had to do some research these past few weeks to figure out how steam-engine is crunching the numbers but this input strategy gets close (there's no way to isolate the twisted lead length of ~23.5mm)…30AWG TLP 6/6, 2.5mm i.d., 9mm L/L, t.m.c. = .4681Ω. So another .05-.08Ω roughly depending on lead twist.

More info on tension winding proper micro's and TLP's on…

Protank MicroCoil Discussion!!
(essentials of tension rebuilding)
Tensioned Micro Coils. The next step. (advanced tension micro)

Too much to keep the arms wrapped around this...track tank debug, new vapers and advanced builders on a clearo thread. It's not apparent to folks landing on this page that all the above is here. And too time consuming to duplicate so much written elsewhere. An advanced search on the above links will give ya a treasure trove on rebuilding.

Thanks for the interest. Always vet subscribers there to lend a hand.

Good luck.

:)

So I was right.... It WAS a parallel :p

I got a buyer for my KangerTech subtank mini ... It got across the country in just 2 days [delivered]. He was happy to get it. - I am happy vaping with my HorizonTech Arctic using the BTC 0.5 ohm at 28.5 watts. Having the rebuild fail so many times i gave up. --- I am happy with the Arctic tank now.
I say, whatever keeps me free from the nasty stinkies.
