This is gonna sound crazy, but MacTech was on the money....swapped tips from the Kanger tip to my nautilus tip and the flavor drastically improved. Score! He was also correct that the vapor production will be reduced, which it is, but Im more about the flavor than cloud chasing, so it's a fair trade IMHO.

wait, u fit a nautilus tip into the subtank?
my nautilus tip is too large

I find the mini drip tip a work of art. Best wide bore tip I own. Though I will say I wish it were about 1/4" longer. My mustache touches the top of the tank, which ever so slightly bugs me. The machining is just so nice, I can't swap it out for one of my other tips.

Speaking of facial hair... Watch out for the seams between the glass & top cap. Got my chinny chin chin hairs caught in there the other day... wasn't much fun.

BTW: Tried my RBA for the first time today... MEH... I will stick with my rewicked OCCs... too much hassle and OCC is actually a better vape. Kudos to those of you with the patience to figure out how to get the dang things to work right.

I didn't think it was that bad. Took 2 attempts to get a build I like on my RBA for the Mini. Comes out to .4 or .5 on the iStick 30 which is perfect since it only fires down to .4. Two strands of 28ga Kanthal braided together using a drill wrapped around a 3/32 drill bit. Works like a charm, flavor is a notch or two better than the OCCs. Once I put this build in, I haven't gone back to the OCC's.

I've had the chin hairs get caught too. Not fun having your hair ripped out. I actually love the RBA section. Just give it some time. I actually mastered it on the first try, and have had nothing but good experience with it. I try to use less wick than I think I need, clipping it off right at the edge of the "tube" middle section, and tucking it loosely in the 2 sides. After soaking the wick, I use my smallest screwdriver to pull the wick away from the wall a bit right above the holes to allow for tiny pools of juice to leak in. I always just use a simple untwisted 28 gauge micro coil in the 1.0-1.5 range, and it works great. I have yet to try a twisted, but I might have to, since I love twisted on my drippers. I love being able to vape at 16-18 watts and get the same kind of flavor and vapor production that I get at 20-30 watts on my drippers, and the flavor is 95% as good most of the time, if not as good.

How many wraps of the dual strand, and are they tight or loose wraps?

4 wraps over and they are as tight as I can get them. I wrap the 3/32 drill bit, install it on the RBA, then use the drill bit to push all the slack through the mount points I can (hope that makes sense), clip off the extra, then straighten it out and center it with the drill bit. I then dry fire it a couple times to see how it heats and after each heat I "tighten" it with needle nose pliers (pinch it may be a better term). By the time I'm done, it's so tight that I can barely get the original bit I used to make the coil back through it. Wick it, soak it, close it up, and vape baby vape :vapor:

I do just about the same thing except I clip the wicks just a hair above the edges of the "tube". I tuck em, soak em, then pull them slightly away from the juice channels. I then (and this may be me being overly obsessive) push a toothpick under the wicks right by the coils to help "fluff" them in the tube. Works like a charm so far every time.

Yeah, actually I clip them just barely longer, maybe 1/16" longer than the tube section. I do my pre-fluffing right after I feed the wicks through the tube and they are still sticking up on the lip. I take my screw driver and scrape, and use my fingers to fan them out to about a 90 degree angle, almost like a bow tie, and make sure all of the strands are loose from one another. THEN I tuck them in loosely. Works great.

I have a coiling kit, what would you say a 3/32 drill bit is, 2.5mm?

Just picked up my Sub Tank Mini from a local vape store today. All I can say is wow, using the 0.5ohm OCC head that was in it, loaded it up with my 50/50 plum fresh and it has blown the back of my head off !! and that's only at 12watts on my iStick 30w.

Using the smallest air hole I can do small mouth to lung hits, but a direct lung inhale and what a flavour explosion on the exhale :vapor:

So is it safe to assume that people don't generally vape super strong menthol in these kinds of tanks? I switched to my super menthol for my second tankful and my lungs did not appreciate that very much lol. Halfway through I had to empty it back into the bottle because my COPD symptoms came back almost full force. Switched back to my Holdfast blend and all was good.

I have been lung hitting MBV Extreme Ice on my Mini since I got it. (6mg, 50/50, 2 air holes, RBA head @ 1.1ohms, mech mod).

It's quite intense, but I like it that way :) I use the same juice on a Rogue RDA @ about 0.7 as well, FWIW.

JimBob, this is EXACTLY the build I am using on the RBA. Twisted 28, comes out to 0.48. Japanese cotton. Perfect vape.

Glad others are seeing the benefits of twisted winds...great flavor and vapor production....helps me confirm it's not just my imagination. :D

I use them in every rta I own...too many to list. Has anyone else noticed an increase in wick life with twisted over single strand contact coils?

I've ”twisters” on the menu next week, when I'll buy me some new Kanthal; now I have just under half a meter left. (that's about one foot, for you precious Imperial lovers :D )

What kept me from twisting was mainly my eyesight, but also what I think of as an utter waste of material (double the Kanthal for half the resistance).

If I can play all I want with pretty much any twisted coil design in my Russian, the ST Mini has an awful lot less room to juggle. I'm not a fan of sub-ohm vaping and I may find impossible to cram in the RBA a twisted coil of over 1 ohm that has enough inner space to pass a wick through it.

But I'll give it a try. :)
