It's official I am starting a vape related non-profit corporation:

DARRYL'S HOME FOR UNWANTED SUB tank MINI rba's!!!

PM me if you need to find a home for an unwanted or unused STM RBA!

LOL. Hey, There's already a home open for vapor disadvantaged winders...Protank MicroCoil Discussion!!

Too many skeptics. No one believes 18-turns in a Protank at 25W (no shorts).

:D

OCC's a piece of cake. Up next!

But you gotta be able to build a stable repeatable proper wind. Or as they say…it don't work for me (or anyone).

Good luck. CYA there.

:)

That may very well be, although many HERE reporting having issues are new or newer vapors.

Let's not forget that the STM is attractive to both new and veteran vapers. I again want to emphasize that, we as a group, should not encourage this hack until all other avenues have been exhausted by the user having difficulty.

I am not saying that this hack is wrong, or doesn't work, or anything like that. What I am saying is that this isn't the cure all to everyone's STM RBA woes!

I think my point is that how many times would you suggest someone rewick until they realize the channels need to be widened? People are just going to give up on the RBA altogether! I have yet to read about someone who ruined it by opening the channels too far, so I suspect there's a fairly wide tolerance. I consider myself experienced, and even with 80% PG juice I certainly couldn't take anywhere near a 10 second pull at 20 watts, even with the tank mostly empty - and this is after widening the channels.

I'd suggest that you continue with wick trial and error before you perform an un-repairable modification. I can take a 5-10 second lung hit on mine using KGD ... cotton. Wicks are easy and cheap to replace, hacking your rba is undoable!

Do you have any pics of how you have it wicked? I don't take huge hits every time, but I'd like to be able to take a nice long pull every couple hits.

with air wide open how do u guys take 10 sec inhales, even at the 2 hole air setting, maybe i smoked for too long or u guys are taking slow drags, theres no way i can take a normal inhale for that long unless its a very slow inhale

I hit it pretty hard, you should see how I hit my RDAs sometimes haha. Part of it probably comes from using...herbal remedies...in the past lol

It takes a little getting used to. And yeah your lung do improve. I kept on workin' the Protanks to improve density at all temps. That's what kept my tolerance broad. Once you go hot dry you often can't handle the heat and density. Right now I've gotten used to the OCC factory coil dry heat and gotten hot density levels I enjoy with the vapor output. That a great many can't handle. Apart from flavor we all have vapor texture that we get accustomed to and/or prefer.

My personally, I like it all.

:)

Good luck all.

I use just enough KGD ... cotton so that the wick slides back and forth in the coil without bunching up. then I trim so that the wet wick just falls to the rba floor and brushes it like a broom. I also use a toothpick to move the "wick broom" back a few mm's from the juice channels.

Here:

In the above shot I have trimmed the left side and not the right. By trimming at the angle, I prevent the wick from bunching up when it is touching the rba floor. Also notice that the wick has no poofy shoulders where it exits the coil.

Not the greatest pics, but in this you can see that the wet wick flows from post to post and you can see the juice holes when looking straight down.

Probably has something to do with my college days and a 3ft tall glass water-cooled smoking apparatus owned by my roommate! LOL!

And I've been hiking a lot since I quit analogs!

To be clear about the RBA section, Mine works fine but I'm seeing folks on multiple forums who can't get it to work right despite helpful folks posting pics and giving wicking advice. I can't assume it's all Noobs because that's not what I've seen. I'm just thinking that there must be some Beta/QC issues with these first few runs from kanger....

Not sure I understood the bold portion...

Does this mean you are going back to the 0.5 OCC, or you are going to rebuild some?

That's pretty much exactly how I wick mine, but your juice channels do look a little bit bigger. I don't use the KGD brand specifically, but the stuff I do use is literally the same thing.

I wanted to ask you regarding the Subtank mini setup. I use the pre-build rba 0.5 ohm coil which is spaced a bit and I am also using japanese cotton. Should I wick it heavy with good amount of cotton that sits tightly into the coil without blocking the juice or the cotton should be more move-able on the coil or it should be tight ? That's my question, please let me know what's better! Thank you in advance.

Not tight! Scroll up a few posts or so and read!

I have done nothing to my juice channels!

If you use too much cotton (so much so that it pulls on the coil when putting in) you can choke the juice so that it won't wick properly. If it's too lose you'll get burned kanthal (yuck) flavor! The cotton needs to just be able to slide through without deforming the coil and still touch all parts of it when wet.

So, it should be medium. Not less but not a lot. Good amount of cotton that will sit tight but not really a lot and not blocking the juice channels .. still be somewhat move-able without deforming the actual coil. I understood correctly ?

I seems to get burned hits whatever I do on this rba so Im soon give up. Done all kinds och wicking and so on. Dont know why this doesnt work for me

Try to see if the juice channel is blocked by not being machined correctly. If not try a small file and open them up. Also, if your packing a lot of cotton in them it won't wick at all. Rip tripper has a great video on you tube on how they work. If your using the OCC heads then look at his video on the pancake build.

The thickness is no different than you'd wick any other RDA - just thick enough that it fits through the coil without pulling the individual coils out of alignment!

I understood. Thanks.

So, I believe my Kayfun V4 tobeco clone is producing better flavour and vapour (or identical) than my Subtank mini. There isn't any significant difference. Is it somewhat normal ? Because I think Subtank mini should be better and thats why my concern is that my build sucks probably .. let me know please whats your opinion ?

Once again, thank you a lot in advance for taking the time to answer me.
