Great, hope you wound it tight. Like 26-27 tw/in for 30g. The tighter the better ime.

Well, I had some 30g that I twisted about 6 months ago...Just checked the winds/inch...38! Yikes! I'm going to do some fresh today. I never used to measure the twists, just went for it. Now I am trying to pay attention to detail. Thanks to you and Mac. I have become OCD and it's your fault!

Worth a shot Joey!

I am disgusted with this tank !! I mentioned i put a new 1.2 ohm coil in and it hadn't been 2 days yet and i am getting dry hits at only 15.5 W. I put on my Atlantis last night and it wicks like a champion at 19.5 W. Sometimes i wish i had never bought the Kangertech Mini. It's frustrating and maddening. I like the flavor when it's not dry hitting, but those dry hits are awful !!

Has anyone tried the Arctic [subohm] tank with the 0.5 ohm coils???

Joey, I feel for you my friend, but I just have never experienced any thing like what you are. But I can sure hear your frustration.

Almost (not quite) makes me want to set one up and send it to you! Something is just not right.

Anyway, never tried the Arctic. But I am also enjoying my DeltaII with their RBA (never used their pre-made coils)

Lol...probably comes from my test engineering and quality control background. Observing the results of a design change is the proof of the science but only when one variable is introduced at a time. That's why I wind 10ft. Of twisted at a time and only change one build parameter at a time for testing...dia, wraps, coil height, wicking etc. Oh yeah....I'm OCD maximus!!

Bummer Joey, it really is a good working tank with the rba set up properly. Even though the occ coils are among the best out there, factory coils are kind of a crap shoot. Sometimes you get good ones, sometimes not. The rba is the way to go for peak performance imo. Wish you would spend a little more time with it. Thing is, if you have probs with the STm rba you'll likely have probs with most rtas out there. There is only one rta on the market that I know is less "wick fussy" than the STm....the Lemo. But then again it's more "build fussy" and "fill fussy". Good luck.

I tore mine down, cleaned it good, and put everything back together as tight as I could get it by hand. So far so good. The only thing I could think of was, if it all wasn't tight to begin with, that taking the bottom off to re-fill, it loosened the chimney a little allowing some leaking in there. Hopefully I got it tho.

When you unscrew the RBA section from the base, make sure you tighten the positive 'pole' that sticks out of the bottom. I put a small screw driver through the holes there and snug it up real good. Helps keep a stable connection as well so you don't get fluctuation with your atty reading. Also, make sure you screw the RBA deck back to the base nice and snug.

Sounds like you may have solved it already though. Wish you great success.

Mine leaked a bit the first day. I took it apart and made sure the bottom o-ring (the one at the base, not the tank) was seated firmly in. Then screwed everything back together snugly and have had no issues.

Hey dudes and dudets.

I was searching for some info on the subtank mini when I came across this thread. So I thought that this might be the perfect place to get some answers :)
I'm sorry if you already answered this question, witch you probably have;) But I don't really have time to read through all the pages.

I keep getting dry hits on my subtank mini, when I use high vg juices, with the rba head. I feel like I've tried every kind of coil and wicking method that I know of, and nothing have helped. I've even drilled out the juice channels, and not even that has helped.
Maybe I'm just lazy, but I hate having to do primer puffs.
So does anybody know what I can do to get it to wick correctly?

Just built my first twisted coil. Got out my drill, a hex wrench, pliers and went to town. Took about 3 minutes. I used 28 gauge and did 7 wraps on a 2 mm rod. On my IPV mini 2 it ohms out to 0.6 (not sure how accurate).

In any case, I put it in my STM and it is the most vapor I've ever produced. Much better than my 26 gauge micro coil build. I can vape it at 15 watts on the smallest airhole and it puts out clouds. Pretty impressive. The larger surface area of the coil really does work (which it should -- it's simple thermodynamics).

I just got in a spool of 24 and 26 gauge wire and I am not sure I will ever use it. Twisted 28 gauge ... on the STM.

The STmini needs to be wicked heavy. Very heavy. What wicking, wattage and coil are you using?

If I wore to list all the things I've tried it would be a very long list. So I'll try to keep it short.
I've tried large diameter coils, smal diameter coils. Microcoils and standard coils, with the wraps spread out. I've tried cotton balls and koh gen do. I've tried loose wicks and packed wicks. Long and short wicks.

all right, I'm back on the vertical coil bandwagon..
the flavor is just a punch in the mouth.. I tried building the handlebar mustache a few times last night and got it working and wicking but the flavor and juicy vape I'm getting off the vert coils is addictive..

I had two builds going, both 1 ohm twisted pair, 16 per inch, 30awg with 6 wraps around a 2.75mm bit..
the handlebar was good 18-22w
the vert coil 18-27w with a lot juicier, more flavorful vape..

I wrapped it looser this time, once around with tails cut off on either side, looks pretty much like the first and works.. maybe I can get a longer life out of the wick if I play around with wick density, I'll find out since with the vert I just can't put it down..

I'd like to see if any of you die hard mustache riders would care to give it a go and see if it's any better or worse

lol, i cant seem to get it wrong, lately what ever i do it vapes real nice.
rewicked stock coil 0.5(reads 0.6 w/istick 30w used for 1month) w/supplied cotton vapes like a champ(after breakin of <2mls).

twisted 28g .06, tried wicking thick but kept on getting caught in the twists so wicked it thinner than i would like, primed it, let it sit upright for a few minutes, slowly cranked up power w/rest periods, if that helps idk, but shes vaping real goooood., clouds w/flavor.

is there a difference between twisted and non, idk seem great to me either way. i dont have any thinner kanthal to try....yet.

My IPV mini noticeably under-performs when compared side by side with my Istick 50w. Also, Unless I switch the IPVmini to PWM mode it cannot down regulate the .5 ohm coil and dry hits happen due to 30 some odd watts getting dumped into the STM. The Istick handles Bucking chores with ease.

Same when comparing the vape of mini 30W vs mini II 70W, better chipset and overhead wins!
