Here is a shot of the two different bases side by side:

Old one on the left, new one on the right.

Oh, and the new base is definitely more open /airy with the stock coils at least. Not sure about the rba head yet.

Just tested the rba head a bit more, also seems more airy with it too. Tough to say for sure because I keep swapping the same rba between the two bases, but I think its more open.

I picked up my SubTank Mini and a kbox Friday. Very good system, easy to use, better airflow than the lemo but the flavor is a little muted compared to the lemo.

I use the 2-hole setting on my STm to match my Lemo airflow. Same 1.1 ohm twisted 32g spaced coil on both....same flavor...pretty happy with the STm as it's easier to fill.

I got my ST Mini a few weeks ago and it came with black replacement o-rings but it has the old style airflow base. I'm curious to know how the new style compares? Also, had my first leak last night but it was user error...I either didn't tighten the tank or the RBA quite enough, what a PITA. Live and learn!

I'm using the .5 ohm occ, and air flow wide open, 20-25 watts (I keep switching back and forth) on the kbox mod. I'm pretty happy.

Making the base airflow hole larger will not make a bit of difference if the OCC and RBA airflow holes remain the same. It may make a difference in the sound it makes, but you will only get as much airflow as the smallest point between the base and drip tip will allow.

One would think that, but it seems the holes on the base were being bottlenecked slightly by the older base. There is a noticeable difference in draw on the new base, it is more airy.

The original hole was already like 2 times bigger (guesstimate) than the opening on the top of the tank, it would be physically impossible to create a bottle neck with a larger hole. Think of it like an hourglass, it doesn't matter how big the openings on the ends are, the flow through the smallest point is all that matters, and the smallest opening is not in the base, on the largest setting. With all the complaints about how loud they were/are, I would bet it was done to quiet it down a bit.

It changes the velocity of the airflow, makes it feel looser/more airy. Same effect from drilling out an orchid, or fogger, gives a more open draw even though you aren't changing anything with the chimney.

Oh, and FWIW, the new base is louder than the old one.

He is looking at it as if it was water or a similar thing that doesn't compress. In that instance he is correct, the whole system can only flow as fast as the slowest point will allow. Air is a bit different, because it can compress. Removing one choke point in a system where a few exist, can conceivably increase the flow of the whole system

Beautiful coil USMCotaku.
Does a clapton coil do much of anything other than hold juice like a twisted pair would do? I've been considering trying one but need to buy some thinner wire first..

Thanks :p
Like a twisted wire, it increases the surface area of coil in contact with wick, only more extremely so. By far my favored flavor build so far. I've tried many different twisted wire builds, none compare to a Clapton IMO. The trade off is twisted wire is definitely easier :p

Yeah, I'm thinking I want another Mini too, and a Nano.

My camo water cup, and iStick 30 with ST Mini:

Mine (from evape.us) came with the black spare o-rings. RBA weep holes cut all the way down, and they're the "narrower" version. No sleeve in the base -- but I got mine ~3-4 weeks ago.

Definitely do it. I have 2 mini's, 1 full size, 1 nano, and now that I've nailed the wicking on the RBA's for high VG, its vaping ....ing bliss. photo (3).jpg

Looks like they enlarged the airflow to compete with the Atlantis, et al. I guess that was one complaint a lot of people had -- the cloud chasers wanted crazy airflow. I wonder how the new airflow slot compares to an Atlantis?

I got out the Atlantis tonight, put a JOC coil in it to compare vs the newer mini base with OCC.

Its not quite that airy, but it is noticeably closer. Definitely similar now.
