@Kaezziel if you're worried about bed bugs on the mattress, the recommendation back home was to encase the mattress in one of those specially made mattress covers they sell for bed bugs and bed wetters.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Original-Bed-Bug-Blocker-Zippered-Mattress-Protector/21387686

Here is what BedBugs.org says: "Covering your bed with linens that are bug proof is the #1 way to prevent an infestation. The mattress' complex interiors and the box springs provide the ideal hiding place. They reside in the coils, wood framing, fabric, springs and foam. For the bugs, these places are like a five-star resort."

These are what I bought for Colton's bed. And don't forget pillow protectors too. They wouldn't work for my bed since it's a waterbed though.

ETA: Make sure any you buy have covered zippers. If they aren't the bugs can actually come through the ends of the zippers.

Good points. Glad you thought of them.

Did you do the heat treatment on your house?

As I scroll through my Facebook feed this morning, this meme keeps showing up and it's made me laugh every time. This will probably be said about me when that time comes. :D

No. None of the pest companies around here do it. I got rid of my infestations by being consistent and tenuous. Steaming, vacuuming, spraying and putting down the diatomaceous earth every day. It took me almost a year and a half.

Wow! What a pain that must have been. In Cinti area several companies do it. Very expensive though.

What you had to do reminds me of how we got rid of fleas at our house here. The people who lived here before us had several dogs and cats they didn't treat for fleas…seriously…in Florida…flea capital of the world! We did not treat the cats while we lived up north because they are inside cats. But after we had been here a couple days my cats would get off a surface and leave live fleas and flea dirt behind.

It took 4 months. To get rid of any flea eggs and pupae that dropped of the cats I had to vacuum every day, every little nook and cranny and I had to wash all washable items, including rugs every few days. I had to comb all three cats every day to remove as many live fleas as possible (frontline and other products work great but with an infestation they can only do so much.) And we applied Frontline every 3 weeks instead of every 4 and gave them Capstar once a week. Capstar kills all live fleas within two hours.

I never want to go through this again.

Same here with bed bugs. Never again! And I'll never buy furniture off of Craigslist again either.

Fortunately, this bed doesn't have springs and stuff, but I may go ahead and get one of those protectors anyway... Hopefully it'll be a non-issue, though. Keeping fingers crossed...

According to my direct supervisor the company is in an overhaul. They're hiring new people to train for holes that need filling. That makes no sense to me because if my job was going away, then I could be used to fill one of those holes. There are 2 of us ladies that are 55 and older doing the jobs that are being fazed out. We both feel like our jobs and us are on the line.

You guys are not going to believe this....
I went out to leave to head to Subway for lunch and hear a cat meowing. I walk over to the neighbor's juniper trees because that's where it's coming from. Colton comes out with Nala so I ask him if he hears it and he says yeah. He says mama, that's Oreo. She's stuck in the top of the tree. We called the fire department but they can't help us. I've called her and it seems as if she's came down closer. I set a bowl of food out but that's about all I can do right now as I have to get ready to leave for work. :( I can only hope she comes down and sticks around until tonight when I get home from work.

My resume has been updated and sent out. But let's face facts here...I'm 60 years old and most of the companies around here want to hire younger people.

The good news is she is back, so you know she is OK. I'm sure she'll stick around.

To make a long story short, it took me over 2 and half years and about $1500 to get rid of those pesky things. I still have a fear of things crawling on me.
oh lordy......that's horrible what you and bea had to go through getting rid of those and fleas.

    Alcohol kills them.
did not know this. I know they say the dryer will kill lice etc, but didn't know bed bugs. I know a fella on another thread that works for a pest control company and specializes in bed bugs says it takes either 140 or 160 degree heat to kill em

(my neighbor supervised, showed him a bit about how to dig a good hole),
that's kewl! He was watching out for you, and taught the youngin how to do it properly. sorry bout the root though

I hold him up like Simba and ask them what they want me to do with him!
    lmao! Hope he flewed off

Nala had her first visit to the vet. Yeah I know we're a bit late getting started but I am determined that Colton is footing the bill. She did very well! Inquisitive and not a sound when he gave her the shot. The vet says she's in great shape. She weighs a whopping 3.5 lbs. He estimates that she'll be about 7-10lbs full grown. First puppy shots down, back in a month for the 2nd round.
oh kewl, glad she didn't have issues. Ozzy plasters himself against me

    SOMEBODY PLEASE SHOOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This day is turning into a fiasco!!!!!!!!
well Kad beat me to it

I'll have one of each, please! :pervy:
    that's my girl!

    I just started smoking peppers.
thought you quit smokin!! (hey y'all were thinkin it, someone had to say it) :D

I'll see yur bizarro kat, and raise you a bizarro dog. Somehow frankie ended up sleeping upside down

    Frankie sleeping upside down.jpg

I worked all 7 hours last night. It was almost 5 before they found me a spot though. The way I understand it, I've become a "floater" going wherever I'm needed. I'm grateful that I still have a job but I'm not thrilled about the floating.
Glad you still have a job. I always enjoyed floating around when I had a job that I could do that. Wasn't the same ol thing either everyday, or all day, if I floated throughout the day

Now I'm probably gonna be paranoid as crap... :(
sowwy  but wanted you to be aware. But I hear ya, I would be too

@Debadoo that pest control guy is correct about the 140 degrees. Most dryers get that hot at the high setting but you need to run the clothes in that cycle for at least 20 minutes to allow the dryer to reach that temp. We usually ran our for 30 minutes just to be sure.

Luckily we never had bed bugs but I hated having to keep worrying about it.

It's great that she called to you when you went out! Poor little girl, she's outside & up a tree. Both weird things for her.

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, I'm on the phone with a client this afternoon, and the receptionist sends me a message "Arlene called and said there's an emergency. Call her ASAP". SO got home from her conference, and not 5 minutes after getting home, BDD in all her excitement to see Mama managed to get a buckle of her harness to tear across SO's leg. Much blood and torn skin. Miss Claire (Mrs. Uncle Kerm) takes SO to the ER. I get there a bit later, after tidying up a couple of loose ends (I do *NOT* do blood or open wounds very well..... ) Her leg had JUST healed from the LAST round of stitches..... ZOMG

Yup, twelve stitches this time...

We've already told you to wrap SO in bubble wrap (& pics or it didn't happen [emoji5])

Seriously, sorry it happened, but glad it sounds like she'll be okay.

Cvapor was fast shipping the Pico25, got mine in today. Tomorrow morning it'll be headed out to its new home.

Just back from dinner with DW and her sisters at the local Texas de Brazil. We all reached meat coma stage, a pleasant night out [emoji3]
