So I started building coils on a kayfun Lite Plus V2, and after watching several YouTube videos, have learned that touching the coil to the build deck is bad. How bad? Like crossing the streams of proton packs bad? Will I fry my ProVari and its battery? I know this is probably hard to do and I shouldn't worry about it-but somehow I have a propensity for breaking things. I'm a German translator not an electrical engineer, but it seems like I'd be closing a circuit. I know this isn't rocket science however I'm a little hesitant when trying new things. Also is dry burning the best way to clean E juice residue off of a coil? Thanks for the help!

Won't fry it but it will error out. Need an ohm meter to make sure though. The Provari is forgiving but not forever. Keep getting E1 or E8s and it may die. Dry burns are the best way to clean the coils but with cap off and if you use cotton wick of course you need to take that out when you do that. You would need the ohm meter even more if you were using a mech. A mech is not forgiving about shorts. Had a screw in volt ohm meter and the voltage side shorted and took out a battery.

If the coil's that low, you'll probably have problems.

If the positive side is touching anything but the insulated positive post, you have a short. A regulated mod, like your Provari, SHOULD shut down, but you really don't want to keep abusing it that way.

If the middle is touching the negative post / body, what happens is the portion of the coil closer to the neg connection is, effectively, no longer part of the circuit, so for example, you're 2 Ω coil is now 1... not good.

And in general, if the coil is too low - i.e.touching the base plate! - you'll probably get leaks.

As everyone else said already ... You don't want to short out your battery. Bring your coil up off the build deck. Also, in order to get a good vape, you need some space between the bottom of the coil and the air hole below the coil on your Kayfun.

Here is what the space below the coil looks like on my SvoëMesto Kayfun Lite-Plus v2

Get a Fluke DMM, they have protection circuitry for issues like this.
