I was doing that before. But what I've done this time is thin the cotton tails right out so they don't come close to filling the wick holes. I then gently pushed them away from the wick holes (towards the deck) to expose them. Sounds crazy but seems to be working well, so who knows. lol

How many turns back do you open your JFC?
After filling I turn back the JFC 3 full turns counter clock wise

Just to be sure, you are using full wraps? North/South?
Almost parallel to the posts, i thin the tails, J/F only 3/4 open. .8 ohm ss316 Slick.

The reason for my opening statement is because when i first used the v3mini, both leads North,, & inadvertently installing the coil,, 90° offset.
What i like about my KF5 clone is the improved A/F, great improvement over my lite+ authentic which is in storage.
That being said, there are quite a few RTAs that have better flavor IME.
Rose V3, Ubertoot, dotmod Petri.
To me the Kayfuns are like a pair of comfortable old shoes..

This thing was definitely not hitting right. But after build 328000 or something.... I think I may have cracked it.

That's a nice looking build. And the performance is good with decent flavor? Glad it finally came together for you.

I completely understand your frustration at getting it built, and am truly impressed with your devotion to the task. I would have tossed it to the back of the drawer while kicking myself for spending so much way earlier. Maybe it's that immediate gratification thing I struggle with.;)

Well think of it this way. Based on cigarette prices where I live, that would cover a little over 2 cartons. From that perspective £230 is a bargain. At least that's how I justify buying expensive stuff.

I know you said you got it working better, and if so never mind this statement but I'm thinking a tad more wick through the coil. I could be off because the k5 is the only kayfun I don't have, but in all my others they seem to work better with slightly more cotton then slightly less. I still trim tails but through the coil maybe try slightly more. Just looks a little slouchy imo. Also by slightly increasing volume slightly I find , at least in my km3, that I don't have to open the JC as much which gives me a smoother vape

You are quite correct good sir! Shortly after I was getting some minor flooding and despite it flooding, it wasn't wicking right... go figure lol. Anyway rewicked it with more through the coil, but still cutting the tails just a couple of mill out from the deck and DAMN! She's wicking like a chump and chucking our fantastic flavour. I'm so glad I stuck with it. This thing was pissing me off lol I dunno how many builds I've put in it over the last few days. Lol

It definitely is a bit more finicky with wicking than past kayfuns. I use a simple 28g 2.5 ID spaced coil around 1.4 ohms and get great flavor running 13 watts. One thing I've done with my tails is cut them at an angle making the fibers close to the coil and on the bottom shorter so when it's tucked in the end of the wick is flat to the deck. I've found just cutting it and tucking it in can cause the wick to bunch up or even work it's way into the juice holes choking the flow.

See, these are the kinds of tips people need lol that's exactly what I did. That's what I do on the serpent and thought, why not I'll try it and sure enough it's way better. Having said that, I cut mine at a 45 degree angle from the top down, I'm guessing you did it from the bottom? I'm gonna play around with it a bit more and then throw a step by step up.

Just out of interest, are you MTL or DTL? Guessing MTL at those ohms.

It's funny because most think a tank is a tank but they all have their own little differences. I own about a dozen rta's and each are slightly different in the way you have to set them up. Some like thin tails, some like my evl reapers like major thick tails. Some work better with the JC open more, while some dont. Glad your dialing it in and hopefully you'll be really happy with it. I know every kayfun I own is very good.

I do it about the same angle. Longer at the top of the coil, shorter at the bottom near the air flow. Basically I cut it so when tucked the outer fibers are longer since they have to travel farther to reach the deck. I haven't tried it the other way. I mainly mtl but I do DL hits on the same build. I like long slow relaxing drags of 5 sec or more not the 1-2 sec hyperventilating puffs I see some sub ohmers do.

I like long slow pulls too. The one thing I'm not liking about my current clapton is the ramp time though.

kayfun was a good stepping stone for figuring out what I wanted from my vape, my search ended essentially a year ago but hit true perfection 3 months ago when I got my 25+

What's a 25+ and wants your idea of perfection? I basically want a smooth pretty thick vape with great flavour lol
