Two Page Story, not a positive spin. No word on how it's cleaner than cigarette smoke. So now vapor is being touted as 2nd hand smoke?

“If it becomes a regulated vehicle for transmitting nicotine, then I think we would need to look at what its risk is for secondhand smoke,” said Burt Malone, Kansas City’s director of environmental health services.

The e-cigarette lights up a debate - KansasCity.com

...not keen on nicotine vapor.

“The idea that somebody can sit next to me on an airplane, somebody can sit next to me in a restaurant … and be blowing into the air a mixture of a known respiratory irritant and an addictive stimulant bothers me,” he said.

What if someone is using an asthma inhaler next to you, so you know what drugs are in there?

The reporter put up his number so we can give him feedback on his story.

I say this politician acting like a public servant should put up or shut-up. I think he should look into it as well. Look in to it....LOOK INTO IT!!!
Someone needs to start doing the testing so these irrespsonsible comments will finally stop. But if they actually would do some testing and it (WILL) show that there is no harm... the test will be quitly shoved in a drawer and never see the light of day...or the data and the testing will be BS just like the FDA kindergarten testing.

But again I say, all you that live in this guys state, write him, by all means write him and tell him to get off his opinions and do some scientific testing on the e-cigs and get it over with already.

That second part you quoted was actually from John Banzhaf the leader of ASH and they are all about the irresponsible misinformation..I mean really they are the nazis of the anti smoking world..these are the same people that want parents to have their children taken away if they smoke in a car with them and give detailed directions on how to use smoking in divorce custody battles..he really is scum of the earth...just saying so you don't confuse him with this malone guy

I agree with most of what you've all said. However, to be fair, we are exhaling something. It would be nice to to see a study of what we are inhaling so that we have evidence one way or the other. I mean really, are we exhaling a known irritant and nicotine into the air around us? If we are, I don't think it really hurts anyone, but we really don't know do we?

ok, flame away! hehe

Janet, not to flame, because I want to know precisely what I'm inhaling (and exhaling) as well, but to take a line from your signature, shouldn't we measure vapor against smoke? It seems unfathomable that vaporized PG, VG, water, nicotine, and flavorings can possibly be nearly as harmful as the products of combustion. I'd venture a guess that most residential HVAC units spew more irritants and toxins than we do when vaping.

I was under the impression that all studies done so far on the vapor exhaled produced "0" carcinogen level. I thought that even the FDA had determined that, along with other various tests.

What was still up in the air is exactly what is being inhaled as the FDA study contradicted other studies to the extent of some possible carcinogens taken in from vaping.

How off am I in my assumptions?

Unless the system malfunctions, HVAC systems are closed loop. Unless you're talking about the crap in your home getting sucked into the system, then thrown back out at you, which is not really a function of the system itself. The AC side runs on electricity, which dependant upon where your power comes from, may or may not be clean. The heating runs on natural gas in most areas, which is the cleanest burning fuel known to man.

I'm not aware of any studies showing what is being exhaled. Certainly not from the FDA. And yes, I agree that most likely what we exhale with pv's is much better than with combustible tobacco. However, if I were a non-smoker sitting next to you and I was concerned about such things I would want to know.

That said though, IMO, second hand smoke has been blown WAY out of proportion. But the anti-tobacco folks have some people genuinely scared to death of SHS. In this climate, I can perfectly understand people being worried. After all, they are constantly being told things like the SHS from the apartment next door is going to come through the electrical wall sockets and cause their babies breathing difficulties and possible death, (seriously, that's a commercial here in CA). If you bought that hook-line-and-sinker, don't you think you'd be worried about what was being exhaled by people using a "fake cigarette" too?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. The air in most people's houses is (I'm not sure of the exact number and I'm too lazy to look it up) times more toxic than the air outside, even in highly urbanized areas. I recognize that it's not usually a function of the AC itself; it's because people don't change their filters. Wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes. (I'm guessing you are an HVAC tech.)

I think it would be great if a ton of ECF members gave up 3-4 weekends in a lab to get some test dont, obviousily with a rated tester running the show, we would all just be his army, we could get donations through the ECF to pay for the testing and deliver it worldwide apon our findings, gets me,, fluid hitting something hot,,,, and creating a vapor,,, is now smoking... I mean WTF IS GOING ON HERE, I still smell feds wanting tax dollars, when it comes down to a rulling,,where gonna have to let em in sooner or later might as well be now instead of later when we suffer there reports.........????? but vapor isnt smoking, also we need to stop calling it that and use the corect term everywhere (VAPOR)
