Keep craving analogs... am I doing something wrong?

First off - I apologize if this topic has been discussed. I've done some skimming, but this forum is so popular that I can't possibly read everything! At any rate, I've been experimenting with e-cigs for several months now (maybe a year) with mixed success. Behaviorally, e-cigs are a great replacement. As far as nicotine goes however, e-cigs just don't seem to fulfill the craving... at all. I'm using the njoy NPRO and store-bought njoy menthol full strength carts (from Pilot stations). Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I using the wrong e-cig? Though I do like the size and feel of the NPRO. Perhaps I'm using the wrong nicotine solution? I've heard of juicing and dripping, but I like the convenience of the store-bought carts. Or perhaps I'm not vaping enough per "cigarette"... I usually take about 10-20 deep drags. I recently read a study about how e-cigs do not deliver nicotine or a lower amount at least - perhaps I need to take more hits. At any rate, I'm desperate for advice!

Three words....higher strength nicquid. Started with 16mg carts, and it didn't really "hit the spot". Now I'm between 24-36mg depending on the day. It took me 3 months to get off the analogs completely, just gotta stick with it, and experiment to find what works for you :)

Mike, I don't own an NJoy, not very familiar with it, although a lady I work with uses one. She has not been successful in quitting cigarettes. In fact, I haven't seen her use it in several months.

I second the recommendation for higher nicotine juice. Try 36mg. If it turns out that is too high you can always reduce, but that should help with your cravings. Some people also suppliment with smokeless alternatives to get the MAOIs they crave. I haven't found this necessary, but you might consider it.

You might consider a different PV. If you like simple, I'd recommend a 2 piece, like the KR808D-1 ... vapor4life is one source (mine). They have cartomizers up to 36mg, and a very impressive range of flavors. They also have juice, if you'd be interested in refilling, check out the carto condom refill method.

I hope I've offered something helpful.

At times there does seem to be something missing for many people. I attribute it to the lack of carbon monoxide. Part of the "hit" from analogs is the reduction of oxygen due to the smoke. PV's do not reproduce this.

I have found that having a high nic juice to treat like smoking is good. Then having a low nic juice that you can puff on more like a pacifier seems to help at other times.

Might be the MAOIs you are missing, if you up your nic strength a bit and find you still have that 'something missing' thing going on. They are added to regular tobacco cigs and act on the brain in much the same way as anti-depresants do - go have a read in the smokeless tobacco forums on ECF if you are curious :) Lots of people can't manage to give up cigs for various reasons, and some have no desire to of course, but thats one of them.
Also: do not go by the amounts of juice per cig some of the manufacturers quote. A cart does NOT equal one pack and yes, PV deliver nic in a differnt way (much more slowly) than cigarettes do.

Pilot stations? You mean the truck stops?

Get yourself a better e-cig to begin with...there is a whole section on reviews and polls. That are Nonbias not done by paid advertisers. Most recommend for starters is the Joye 510. Think at least half of vapers started with a Cheap..yet incredibly expensive knock off.(I did)
Plus you need several batteries and atties...not just the one like with Njoy kit.

Get a higher nic level, and try out several different flavors.

Edit: check out the why some folk have trouble quitting thread on the new members page now....covers pretty much everything.

I just posted on another thread but I'll recap. I miss the sequence, pick up, light, smoke, finish by putting out in ashtray. 2 weeks after I had my last analog I still miss it, just not as much. There just isn't that "done now" feeling. So that's a missing feeling. Others have also noted the same thing but I haven't seen a good solution for this.

I've found some juices that give me a good TH and make nice vapor and have good flavor. But I had to move to 24mg strength to take the edge of the cravings. So I'll also suggest moving up in nicotine strength.

And as a menthol smoker I haven't found a good menthol cigarette flavor. That problem I've resolved by finding a nice tobacco I like and a separate menthol I like. When I want a "cigarette vape" I take 4-5 inhales of tobacco and finish with 1 or 2 of menthol. Not as good as if I've found a good flavor but workable for me.

You will need to find the right combination of PV and juice for you before it works properly, and especially in the beginning, for a few weeks many need fairly high nicotine stenghts, like 24mg and up.

The NJoy is a mini, and few people manage with those (although it happens). Do have a look at the eGo, there is currently, in my opinion, nothing better on the market for beginners, and get at least 18mg liquid, better at least one bottle of 24, unless you were a very light smoker.

Also, but that is a matter to be discussed in a few weeks, you may be one of those ~20% of all vapers who need to supplement with some tobacco product; everything is better than cigarettes, though. The smokeless section of the forum has more information on this, but as I said: Give yourself a few weeks to get used to vaping, and if you then still crave analogs, have a look at smokeless.

I agree that a nic content of 24-36mg might help plus possibly a better PV. Finding flavors you really enjoy is helpful also. I'm new to vaping also and after smoking Marlboro 3-4 packs a day for 30 years, I can attest to the fact that vaping definitely delivers plenty of nicotine. It's just absorbed into your body a bit slower than analogs. I now smoke only 1 pack every 3-4 days and pretty much chain vape! Good Luck to you, just stick with it and you'll eventually find the right combo that works for you.

You have to also remember those other chemicals that are in analogs that are not included when you vape. While they may not be as addictive as nicotine, you still get used to having those while you smoke. So it is completely normal to still have cravings for a while you start vaping. It took me about three week for the majority of those cravings to go away. Cravings usually only last for about 15 minutes so what I would do is constantly vape until they went away. I vaped more when I first started always looking for that satisfaction. It still takes some dedication, but if you stick with it you will succeed.

The NJOY NPRO isn't a bad unit. It's an RN4081, I believe. Decent battery life, decent vapor volume for a mini. The cart flavor is decent, but the High isn't High. It is supposed to be 18 mg. Definitely pick up some higher mg juice (34-36), and try a liquid that has cinnamon in it. It's just a personal preference, but I've found that the cinnamon flavor has a tendency to hit the spot as far as the craving goes. What I was missing when I tried the e-cig at first was the impact (weight) of the smoke. Some call it throat hit (TH), although IMO its not quite the same thing. A strong flavor helps out with that feeling. Vanilla is another one which helps, but straight vanilla is not very powerful.

I've been vaping for about a month, and have cut my analogs from 2 pks per day to a little over 1/2 pk per day. I realized I was really making progress when I reached over a pack of analogs to pick up my Joye 510! I'm getting more accustomed to vaping, and it won't be long before I completely get rid of the analogs for good!

Don't get discouraged. You are making progress. There is a learning curve with e-cigs, and before you know it, you won't even think about analogs!
