Wow - this is great! Thanks everyone for your advice and help (and video) - I really appreciate it. I've got a list of things to try - for starters I think I'm going to give the K808D-1 with the 24 mg cartomizers a try or perhaps the Joye 510. I'm also going to try and experiment with different flavors to see if I can't find one that best simulates an analog throat hit. We'll see how it goes... thanks again for the support!

He just mostly got off, that's about the size of it.

I swear my dog does this on purpose. This is the third video he pulled this crap while I was making a video. I think he's now connecting the dots, master makes video and pays no attention to me, I rape his pillow, he pays attention to me again. Billy is as smart as a whip.

It's becoming a recurring theme. I don't want to be known as the e-cig video reviewer with the pillow raping dog. Although it's a bit more entertaining than your typical review video. :D

Honestly, once you get used to vaping, analog "throat hits" will not matter. If you want to check this for yourself, once you get settled in vaping and get good hits, try smoking an analog after a few weeks. Believe it or not, you will not get much of a throat hit with an analog, although you may end up gagging and wonder how you smoked that crap for all these years.

Good luck! :)

I quit through a slow cut back process. Got down to about two analogs a day, those were in the morning. Went back to also having one at the end of the work day, went back to having two at the end of the work day.

A couple things helped me kick it all together.

Snus, I just grabbed some camel brand at the corner gas station. Helped huge at work because yeah, I had to get of the other chemical cravings smoking gave me. I used it when I felt a big foggy in the head instead of reaching for an analog.

Second, I was using a 510, I did up the nicotine but found myself liking the simplicity of just lighting up rather than recharging batteries, filling up carts etc etc....
I was getting frustrated, that's when my two a day analogs crept back up to around five a day.
Got an IM from a member who suggested I get a mod. I ordered them along with batteries and cartomizers. Since I went with a custom mod, chucks, I had a bit of a wait while it was being made. During my wait, I worked on cutting back down to just my morning analogs, wasn't easy, I live with a smoker. I told myself this is what is gonna get me over the analog hump and I was right. Within two days of vaping on a 3.7 mod with cartomizers I was able to give up analogs. I am only two weeks in, out of habit I still want an analog in the morning but not having one isn't painful like it was before.

It's a slow process but any progress is good and that is what you must remind yourself.
It seems everyone quits different so my post is just my two cents.

I've also dropped a pretty penny on various supplies and liquid. I think of it long term, I am in the hole if I compare my analog cost to vaping but the hole won't last and as each week/month goes by I will break even and start to go the other direction. Hopefully my life expectancy will do the same and that is what matters most.

I just watched Big Jim's video. Well said! Only want to add that the one plus of vaping...when you do fall of the wagon, jumping back on is so much easier. Every other quitting method leaves you completely back at square one, vaping does not and allows you to progress forward instead of going back to start.

That is so true. Vaping takes care of the two big things with cigarette smokers, the nicotine and the hand/mouth fixation. The patches, gums, etc, don't address the second issue, which is why they fail so badly. If one falls off the wagon for awhile, it is far easier to pick up your trusty 801 and get back into the swing of things.

When I first started, I was 2 and a half packs/day smoker. First day, that was cut to a pack a day, on day 3, I was down to half a pack, day 5, a pack a week, the first month, one pack the entire month. From that point forward, zero. It is a gradual process, but I was an insane smoker. Someone smoking "only" a pack a day will find it much easier than I did.

That is interesting...always heard rumors about Big T companies adding stuff to cigs to make them More addictive. I'm wondering how true that really is.

I had the withdrawals when switching to vaping...and I was missing the "rush" feeling. Honestly taking another look at the whats in cigs helped me...The reality check that I was craving arsenic, carbon monoxide, cyanide 8-o I dont Need those. The craving only last about a week..you can push past your need for those poisons. Everything you really like can be found in an e-cig.

I was surprised by that when I switched. I never would have believed it if I hadn't experienced it for myself. IMHO, I think that's why Marlboro is so popular. It's not the same for everyone, but it really makes you wonder!

I still crave analogs. But I've gone from 2 pks a day down to 1/2 pack. The hardest times for me are in the morning with my coffee, and after meals. But I'm making progress! Analogs are tasting more disgusting every day. You're right about the toxins in analogs! If I'd known about that before I started smoking, I never would have started. But at least now, I'm headed in the right direction. :D

Hi all,

My experience has been similar. I never intended to quit analogs when I first tried e-cigs. Down to around 2 analogs per day now. Smoked a pack+/day of Marl Lt 100 for the last 30 years. I usually vape 18 - 24 mg liquids. The early morning and late evening cravings are when I break down and smoke an analog. (Same as trukinlady) I just got some Snus and Snuff in the mail and am going to see if that will work instead. If it doesn't, so it goes. I figure if I have cut my smoking by 80% or more I have to be better off then I was. One of these days I will stop analogs completely; it just may take a bit longer then most folks. (Unless they ban e-cigs; then it's probably back to analogs.)

Good luck.

I stuggled constantly with craving cigarettes when I first started vaping. Although the vaping allowed me to cut down to where I was cheating 1-4 times a day instead of a pack and a half, I could not kick the anxiety and craving for a real smoke.

I tried high nicotine juices; I sucked on the P-v like a pacifier on a constant basis. I bough a couple of high voltage mods and none completely got rid of the anxiety and cravings.

I found the smokeless forum and started trying out snuff and snus. Since then I have not looked back. I use my PV daily but it is not a pacifier anymore. I am vaping 10mg juice and using snuff to maintain. I have no anxiety and no desire to smoke. I spend most of my breaks at work surrounded by smokers and I have no cravings.

If your cravings persist you might want to visit the smokeless forum here on ECF. You will find many people who vape and use snus or snuff for maintaining freedom from smoking.

When I made the decision to purchase an E-Cigarette (I went with the Joye 510...I recommend getting that model or one of the other more highly touted e-cigs) I figured if I liked it I could replace Analogs entirely. When I got my first PV I liked it....but not all that much. It does take some getting used to. Still, I found myself starting to enjoy it more and more and decided that this could end up working for me but it would take time. I had been smoking at least 40 cigarettes a day at this point. I decided to give myself a 9 month window. I would go down 5 cigarettes a day every month. This was in late January.

Things accelerated. By late March I planned to be down to 30. I was down to 20. By now (Late April) I planned to be down to 25. I'm actually down to about 10. Yes, I have a way to go, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. The funny thing is that lately I've found myself in a situation I never thought I'd be in....I really have not been enjoying my analogs. I used to smoke almost every analog down to the very end...now I find myself putting it out with 1/3 of cigarette remaining.

I'm still a work in progress so my advice might not be as good as some of the others...but I don't think vaping needs to be an all or nothing right away type venture. Get used to an E-Cigarette. Find one you like. Find liquids you like. Make mods to your cartridges/attys/batteries/whatever. Just keep moving forward. If you smoke 3 cigarettes on your way to work, cut it to two. If you usually smoke first thing in the morning, vape first thing in the morning first. Pick up the PV first and take a few puffs when you want an analog.

To be honest, although I do intend to keep pushing to cut analogs completely, I wouldn't even be that upset if my progress stopped here. I feel better. I sleep better. I don't wake up with my chest/back fried from days where I sucked down 60 cigarettes, and I've saved some money (cigarettes are at least $6 per pack here). Overall I am very pleased with my vaping experiences thus far.

I'm finding this difficult myself. I've cut back from a pack/ pack and a half a day to maybe 4-5 analogs a day. Of course, this has been a busy and stressful weekend at work so that isn't helping any. I think it is the feeling I haven't had a whole cigarette when I vape. There's no completion when you tuck it back into your pocket. Old habits die hard I guess. I'm going to keep fighting though!
