Edit: if you are considering a KFL, or are having trouble with yours, read this entire thread. I ran into some leaking issues after this initial post and so many wonderful people came to my rescue. Let them be your rescue too...there are tips, photos, lots of problem solving advice. Even if you have a different cause of your issue than I did, chances are it's covered it. Thanks everyone...vape on!
Hello family, and yes, I did just say "Vapourney," my new word for vape journey
(probably won't stick...)
So I got in my EHPro KFL+ on Sat and was finally able to do my first build last night. The bulk of this post was actually a PM to Remie that I've decided to post here for my NT family because I'm just too blown away and ecstatic not to. Kinda long...
So I built it up...landed higher ohms than I meant too, 1.7, but figured I'd keep it and see how it works. I didn't clean it...luckily no nasty flavor though, but I'm gonna clean it probably tomorrow when I re-wick and switch juice
I put in Naki's. I used 28ga Kanthal A-1 wire, and organic cotton like I do on my Protanks. I was nervous my wick was a bit short the way I trimmed it, but went ahead with it. BTW - sooo much easier and funner than building a Protank, WORLDS APART!!!!!!!!
So then I filled it up...oh and I was terrified of stripping too...the chimney I couldn't figure out how to get down without putting a fair amount of pressure...still kinda concerned about that x.x couldn't get the clear plastic middle tank section to thread at all so I stuck with the stainless steel (BUMMED about this---though it looks infinitely cooler, I can't tell how much liquid is left. anyone know a trick to see how much liquid remains?)
I hit it, puffing the first few times like I always do with PTs before inhaling...like 5-6 times
Then I really hit it.
no break in period. not even the slightest hint of a gurgle, or too tight of a draw, no cotton flavor, absolutely nothing resembling break in period like I've gotten used to. It was a full on, powerful, perfect hit. and every hit since has been too! it thus is easier than the PT on every level, including the ability to easily get a "perfect" hit from the get-go.
Next thing that hit me was the fact that I was producing significantly larger clouds of vapor. this surprised me because rebuilt PT heads are supposed to be about the same vapor-wise. maybe it's because one of two things. 1) it's easier to do a good build so this may actually be the best build I've ever done, or 2) it's because it has a looser draw to it so I'm able to get more vapor with less inhale. To be honest I really LOVE this amount of vapor - I'm not a cloud chaser, but there is something surprisingly fulfilling about this vape. I really like the more airy draw from the kayfun and the style of the mouth piece over the PT. I love being able to take somewhat of a quick drag (maybe 3 seconds) and fill my mouth and lungs.
At first glance it also appears to be a better choice for going hiking with than the PT. seems more durable, less likely to leak. Just seems perfect so far in that sense.
flavor...I attribute this to the fact that my resistance is .4 higher than my 1.3 ohm PT coil currently hosting Naki's, but it seems to have SLIGHTLY less flavor. However, the vapor production, the feel of the vape (good throat hit but smooth?? does this make sense?), and the other aforementioned factors make me prefer this to the PT almost instantly. It reinforces the fact that I'm doing a decent job with the PTs and that when rebuilt they really do have great flavor! they also have great vapor although this is more by a long shot, at least with my particular builds right now.
i am having my morning vape with it right now. This is the single greatest vape I've ever had. when I do a great wick job on a PT2, I only prefer this over it because of the excellent vapor and smoothness of the hit. Because of the ease of building and wicking combined with the better draw and vapor, I definitely, hands down prefer my KFL+ to my PT2s. I wish instead of buying 3 PT2s I had bought more of these. Very tempted to order one more of these immediately since $30 is not much for this solid of a vape. I DONT like that I can't tell how much liquid is left, and I don't like that to re-wick I'll have to drain the juice. The only downsides so far. I knew I'd like the KFL but didn't expect it to blow me out of the water like this.
Luckily though I don't prefer it so much as to lose interest in my rebult PT2s. But, I see them taking a backseat nonetheless, especially since they're harder to rebuild. This was so much less effort for such a better vape. Now of course as I try other juices, maybe some of them I'll prefer in one or the other. Taste wise I prefer Naki's in the PT2 so far - again possibly because of my coil resistance. even though I'd love to lower this to 1.2 or 1.3, this is hitting SO good I'm hesitant to screw wth it and replace it right now, haha, know what I mean?
My plan is to vape this until it starts seeming empty-ish then or the wick needs replacing, then I'll clean it with soapy water, dry it and fill it with Banana Pudding to see if I do indeed get more of a pudding flavor. When that's gone...Wakonda!
Think I'm gonna go order a second one...if something happened to this, I'd be lost in vapeland
Thanks again to everyone who has helped me on my journey so far...now I'm officially into rebuildables. I think my longer term plan here is to get another one of these, next paycheck to also get another MVP2 so I've got two good batteries, and then a paycheck or 2 later, a REO and Reomizer. Think I will succeed with a REO if I can succeed with these
overall it seems a different experience to me...not comparable on every front. it's another beast!
