So, I got me a kick and nice mod for it (PureSmoker Legacy). I wanted a backup to my ProVari and something a bit smaller. However, not another ProVari. VW seamed like a way to be more mobile and not have to mess with the ProVari menu all the time.

My problem is that when I go from a low ohm device to high ohms it burns really bad. So, anything around a 2.0 ohm works fine. Here is what I am experiencing:

2ohms works great. I normally vape around 4.0v +/-2v with low ohms. Setting the kick at 8watts works really good for me. Say with a Vivi Nova 1.8ohm head.

2.8 ohms: Pop on a Vivi Nova with 2.8ohm head and it burns the heck out of liquid. On my ProVari or LT I run that specific tank/juice combo at 4.2 ohms (5.8 watts). I tried it with a Kanger T2 and had the same problem. Flat out unusable.

Apparently this is a limitation of the Kick. Adjustments means taking the mod apart, having a screw driver, etc. just to switch. Alternatively I could just switch everything to lower ohms.

Wondering how other people manage this. I should have thought of this before I purchased. Interestingly none of the reviews I saw mentioned this limitation and it completely slipped by me.

new kid,

Other Kick owners don't have to manage anything. What's happening for you (burning juice) implies that something is very wrong. Reviews don't mention what you're experiencing because it's not supposed to happen. That the whole point of The Kick module and/or any power-regulated device (Darwin, DNA chip, Zmax/Acrylimax)---to provide the same vape intensity/heat across a range of different coil resistances.

8 watts should not result in burning juice. Period. With a 2.8 ohm coil, 8 watts means 4.73 volts and 1.69 amps.

A Kick module that is working properly will never burn juice in any single-coil atty/carto with resistance between 1.5 and 3 ohms. Even at its max setting of 10 watts (which is where I run both my Kicks), the most you'll get is a relatively nice, full vape. But burning? No. Not even close. Hardly warm enough to notice.

[A note on your calculations: 2.8 ohms at 4.2 volts = 6.3 watts, not 5.8 watts.]

billherbst - interesting. This would imply there may be something wrong with my clearomizers and not the Kicks behavior. If I put those same clearomizers on a VV device with similar settings they burn as well.

So, I tried a third Vivi that I have. It test out at 2.8 ohms. I was running at 4.4v on the vv PV. Popped it on the Kick and vapes...a heck of a lot better that it did down at 4.4v

So know I have to figure out what is up with the T2 and other ViVi. Hum.

At least they are cheaper to replace.

I've been looking at the Bolt/Kick combo, and I was disappointed to read there
might be a problem with them. I don't hear it often - but I do about the T2.
The Vivi ... not so much on that. They are usually great.

Definetly cheaper.

Now I am just curious why these 2 clearomizers misbehave.

bivie,

I haven't seen whatever you read about a problem with Kicked Bolts. I've got two of them, a chrome extended bolt with a nice chrome button using a Kick with an 18500 IMR, and a burgundy unextended Bolt using a Kick with an 18350. Love 'em both. I sanded the inside of each tube a bit with emery paper to make sure the Kick spring would make a good electrical contact, but that's all it took.

Battery life with the smaller Bolt (18350 - 700mAh Efest or 650mAh AW) is nothing to write home about---only 3-4 hours---but that's OK. I've always got charged 18350s waiting in the wings. The 18500 1100mAh Efest/AW is better---it vapes for 5-6 hours.

I've got a bunch of other "old" 18650 metal tube mods I could have Kicked---two Omegas, two MaxiRoughstacks, an Indulgence V3, a Diamond flashlight mod, and one of my two Phidias wooden bottomfeeders is Kick-ready. The Bolt tube is perfect for the Kick (the others are a bit larger in diameter) and swapping batteries on the Kicked Bolts is easier and more hassle-free. The Kick module fits nicely in the battery section of the Bolt tube, sort of "snapping in" right below the threads, so I can see and feel that the electrical connection will be solid before screwing back on the top of the Bolt. Ergonomically, the Bolts feel good in my hand, with the button in just the right place.

I especially like my unextended Bolt, since it's only 3.75" tall. Very small for a power-regulated device. Compared to my new red Acrylimax (which I like, but it's big---5.25" tall), the burgundy Kicked Bolt is tiny. I may remove the extender on the chrome Bolt to make it smaller, too.

bivie, I haven't seen whatever you read about a problem with Kicked Bolts.

I was referring to the first post. At that time, it looked like there was a problem with it.
However, new kid says that problem has been figured out, and it's not the PV. I wasn't
saying there is a problem - I was saying I'm glad there isn't.

Got it. I misunderstood.

Bolts seem to me just about the perfect tube mod for The Kick.
