The Shield's a great tablet for the price...might not be the biggest screen out there, but it's razor sharp, lightning fast and you can emulate those classic game consoles on it if you like. The sound quality is fantastic, and the Shield controller is a great handheld controller for those late night Mario sessions hehe

Or you can get an Ipad Pro 12.9" and jailbreak it for Kodi. lol

BTW: Kodi 17 (Krypton) is excellent. Get the Nolimits program/skin for it...basically gives you every single add-on you'd ever want.

Don't have to jail break-it or go through 'those' other hoops to install Kodi on IOS. Check this out.

I use shield tv boxes, they're like the tablet without the screen, same cpu/gpu. Pretty sure you can also get the older shield tv with the same basic features for cheaper.

Wellll..as usual for me...things get wonky......I passed the mailtruck on my way down the street last Fri....but I had no tracking for the SS so thought nothing of it. Got back home that afternoon and there was a pink slip on my step that said basically undelivered cuz I wasn't there to sign for the S.S....went straight to the P.O. and was told the mailman wouldn't be back till later in the afternoon...so I signed the slip, thinking it'd be delivered on Sat....nope....waited all day today...nope, no pkg. Finally found the tracking. a while ago,..it said it was delivered Sat!!!!!!!!:grr:

Boy oh boy...hope i can control my temper when I call tomorrow.

roku vs kodi

i bought a roku a year or two ago. i used netflix and for a while, hulu. the rest available on roku was random crap, imho.

i then bought Playon. this is a server app that talks to roku, and lets you connect to various websites via user-submitted plugins. i could get 1channel and several other sites that offered "good stuff"

but then Playon stopped working on my PC. their support is hopeless.

then. i bought a kodi box out of frustration, and it was the best purchase i've made in a long time.

i rarely use my roku, except for maybe netflix.

i no longer see why anyone would choose roku over kodi, unless they are committed to paying monthly for sources for some strange reason.

tl;dr: kodi is miles better than roku

I need to start making a list of these Kodi add-ons, as they get mentioned here.

I'm new to Kodi, know hardly anything about Roku, SS, Shield, or anything else of that ilk... just don't watch TV much and don't play games either... well, on a computer anyway ;)

We have only one TV in the house, a little 24" flat panel hanging on the wall in the kitchen, with a FireTV stick bought on sale for $20.

I DL'd Kodi 16.x to my main laptop about a month ago, added Exodus, played with it for a few days, watched a few episodes of Barnwood Builders on DIY channel and some 'My Name is Earl', and haven't messed with it much since. Over the next few days/weeks though I plan to upgrade to v17, install a good skin, and spend more time with it.

I just need to go back and skim this thread and make notes this time around.

I've also done a little research on Plex too, thanks to @kiba !

Thanks everyone for your input!

It was delivered on Sat....but not to my home, it was put in the parcel-type mailbox below the regular mailboxes....dumb lazy biatch.....she had the nerve to tell the P.O. office that she knocked on my door ( tho there's a lit-up doorbell right beside the sunporch door) and i didn't answer is why she put it in the parcel post box, which is a baldfaced lie.

Think I'll take a stroll down the street tomorrow to the mailboxes and wait for her......

Mongo, thanks for the suggestions. I upgraded Kodi to v17, and added No Limits following the vid below. Is the Echo Wizard a good add-on too, or should I have found another way to add No Limits alone? TIA

ETA:For anyone who doesn't want to turn your Kodi install UPSIDE DOWN, don't install the above, as I did. I thought it was just a skin and some add-ons... didn't know it was going to change EVERYTHING!
