this really annoys me. i have a sister in law that smokes around her kids, yuk. her kids smell like camels. i wish she would take up vaping, not for her sake but for her kids sake. i dont really care what she does to herself willingly, she is one of societies "takers". she's a lazy person who hasnt worked steady her entire life. my issue is with the kids, why does she think that its acceptable to smoke in the trailer with her kids. her kids breath that junk in and they already have respiratory problems. her kids not only have to breath that in, but they also see their mother do it repeatedly so they will grow up thinking it is acceptable or normal. her 8 year old already expressed to my wife (aunt) that she will smoke with she gets older. for an 8 year old to come out and say that they plan on smoking; its just wrong. if you insist on consuming these antiquated killers then at least have to common sense to not do it around your kids. if you must buy a PV for the house and smoke only outside.

Give her a pv and help her get started.

Stinks being an addict. We outta know.

I agree, how soon we forget....
it would probably be a good idea to try to be less judgmental!
my dad smoked around us...and we are all old and fine and I'm the only one out of 4 who took up smoking..........

I grew up in the late 70s/80s before they invented smoke allergies and all that stuff. Simpler times. Might be a good idea to take it out of enclosed areas with children but I think the second hand smoke panic is out of control these days.

Well I can say that we ( wife and I) made some choices in regards to our smoking habits back when the kids were much younger that looking back now we aren't too proud of. Times were much different and I don't believe our smoking around them by any means permently scared them for life  We did stop smoking in the house and curb our smoking in the car many years ago once we really became aware of the environment we were putting them in. On the plus side I am 100% certain that neither of our kids will take up smoking at this point in their young adult lives, though our youngest ( days away from being 18) likes the smell of our vaping, especially my wife's fruity ones :)

Here in the province of Ontario , not sure about the rest of the provinces , but it' against the law to smoke in your car with children present .

Much different times now than what they used to be, I would be surprised if that law is even 10 years old :)

I hate to admit that we ignorantly smoked around our children when they were young. We quit smoking from 2003 to 2006 and when we started again (why oh why did we start again? lol) we never smoked in the house from then on. I think for us we just never thought about it until we thought about it... if that makes sense. We grew up with people smoking at the dinner table, smoking in stores, smoking in restaurants, etc. It just wasn't an issue.

In today's world, we know that secondhand smoke is unhealthy. With so many fewer people smoking, we know it's stinky. My 16yo daughter had a friend in school last year who was teased for smelling like cigarettes because her parents smoke around her. Not only that, but after we quit in 2003, we cleaned the yellow sticky from mirrors, picture frames, TVs, walls... and it was a nasty job! I'm so glad we'll never have to do that again. :)

I have to have a (little) laugh at giving out PV's. I bought a few ego kits and clearos for friends and family around Christmas this year. The good news, they LOVE them. The lol news is, despite forwarding them the FAQ here and CASAA links from here as well, they just don't read. If you give a mouse a cookie... :p Totally worth it though, and this post is a reminder that explaining a cartomizer 10 times beats kids breathing smoke.

i dont consider my sister-in-law to be a good persion, i dont care for her much. im more concerned in how she treats the kids. she didnt have a job for years, finally she gets a job with half way decent pay. she suddenly quit that job 7 months later, i believe she did it because she was going to loose earned income credit. she's a scumbag, her trailer is filthy and disgusting. her kids like a filthy and just downright bad environment. i wish CPS would take her kids and put in them in foster care; it really is just that bad. i dont car much for her, she's a taker from society and does nothing to contribute. she's perfectly healthy and has no medical reason why she cannot work or why she quit her job (she quit and wasnt fired i know this for a fact, she tried to get unemployment and was denied). she gets $600 per month in food stamps and that pisses me off as well, that more then 2 of my paychecks and her boyfriend collects welfare, no reason both of them couldnt be working, they are both fat and lazy.

i think its really sad but i dont think her kids have much of a fighting chance in life. she hasnt taught them anything useful and both of her kids struggle in school. they are growing up with terrible role models, and im quit certain that both of her kids will take the smoking habit up at a young age. i have tried to show the older child about the dangers of smoking. she spent a week at our home last summer.

Still Smoking? Watch This - (HD Wide Screen Edition-Full Length) - YouTube

i showed her this video and i tried telling this young girl that she did not want to end up with a lifelong addiction to this terrible habit, take it from someone that smoked for 10 years+ and learned the hard way.

my wife tried handing her sister her PV and she flatly refused "IM NOT SMOKING THAT THING" she said. she is so closed minded that she wont even take one draw to try it. she's a bad mother and she should at least have an open enough mind to try it at least once. she's a closed minded ...... even if she had a more opened mind she probably wouldn't be able to support a vaping habit, one of her idiot friends buys her cigarettes for her.

as i said these are dumb people without any common sense, all they are teaching their kids is how to sit on their asses and get payed for it (live on the government dime) oh yeah and how to smoke and smoke around their own children and even while they are pregnant.

i have a 2 year old son, i quit for my benefit but his as well. he doesnt want to loose both parents at a young age and i dont want him growing up with parents that smoke, which would lead to him thinking it is acceptable

im quite sure the doctor/pediatrician told her not to smoke around her kids but i sure she also doesn't care. she doesnt act like an educated person. he daughter suffers with asthma

Sometimes unfortunately you might as well be beating your head against a wall when it comes to getting through to people especially family, I truly understand and sympathize, there's always hope that as the kids get older they will figure out what they don't want to grow up to be, always worth the effort...

Unfortunately some people are just not good people. You can not change people, I should know I could fix all of our problems as I know whats best for everyone but no one ever listens to me ether;-)
Id say the best you can do is be good role models for you nieces and nephews. While Im sure smoking around them is not the best I don't necessarily subscribe to its the worst ether. My Father smoked in our house I broke a record when I was in high school for under water breath holding at a swim meet.
But it is very selfish and self centered to take a risk when any potential harm could be so easily avoided.
