If I caught one of my kids smoking smarties I'd probably laugh at them, call them dorks and then forget about it. I've learned when it comes to raising kids that it's best not to sweat the small stuff.

Nuck - I love you. You can be a breath of fresh air... seriously! :)

Someone asked where the parents are:
Quote from article: "But after calling a family meeting to discuss the video, Mr. Williams decided Titus was merely being a kid. "I just thought it was funny," he says."

That's where Dad was. Once he found out, he addressed his kid and voila - no harm no foul. Kids will be kids and no matter how much we ban them... they are still going to do. I mean, look at the candy cigarettes we grew up on. My sisters and I smoked them like crazy every time we went out to dinner. Our parents, both non-smokers (well at the time) would let us get a treat from the counter. I smoke and my two sisters could care less about cigarettes.

Maybe we are born smokers. Maybe we are born to be who we are.

If we really want to get worried... let's get worried about the kids who smash up riddelin and snort it for the "coke" like affect it has... or so I am told ;)

There was a story that ran in the Daily Express last week. It said children who were smokers in some schools in the UK were being given nicotine patches, gum and get this - fake cigarettes! in order to help them stave off the cravings during lessons. I wrote to the the paper and asked them if they could clarify as to whether the author was referring to e-cigs but I haven't heard back.
I posted that story somewhere. Anti smokers provide NRT to kids who will use them as a gateway drug to smoking. Nicorette is clearly marketed to children with fruit flavors, teeth whitening varieties, cinnamon, etc. In their hypocrisy, anti-smoking is determined to get kids hooked on nicotine as long as the kids buy it from the drug companies. Middle schoolers can buy NRT with no regulations, chew on it during study hall, then light a cig after school. They are a pathetic group of monsters.

I read that story you posted but this one was different I think. I don't think that one mentioned anything about 'fake cigarettes'

yeah, it's no doubt that big pharma want to keep you on their product for as long as possible in preference to tobacco and they employ all sorts of antics but many adults like those flavours too...look at the range of flavours we have..would you say e-liquid is clearly marketed to children too?

kids "smoking" smarties isnt anything new, it's just that with the internet we have immediate dispersion of information and thus things like this become more widespread. When I was a kid (and I was born in the mid sixties) kids were smoking smarties back then, and the rest of us kids called 'em idiots and stupid for doing such things.

It's kinda like the phenomenon of kids choking themselves until blacking out - kids were doing that when I was in gradeschool (one kid did it to himself in the locker room at school), but again it wasnt as widespread because there wasnt worldwide dissemination of such things via the internet (since there was no internet).

And it's all more reasons why kids shouldnt have internet access without adult supervision.

What kills me about this is that if they are snorting smarties, it is only a matter of time that they are snorting ....... or the likes. Most of these things are done for attention. The fact that these kids are snorting and smoking anything at 12 and 13 years old is no good. Bored or not. Some of the stories that I hear from my daughter just blow me away!! One girl was pregnant at 12!!! Yeah, I get a little worked up about what my girls are exposed to and the reality of what is going on in this world. It is reality, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it.

I blame many of the parents. They let their kids roam the neighborhood until 10 or 11pm with no supervision and then wonder why their 11 year old daughter was touched inappropriately buy a 16 year old boy. Or their son was caught by another parent smoking pot. My daughter is not allowed that much freedom. She does many things, but roaming aimlessly around at night is just asking for trouble.

That's a slippery slope argument and we should expect to hear it in regard to vaping - 'if people are allowed to start vaping it's only a matter of time before they graduate to tobacco'.

Smarties are a gateway drug ;)
