After noticing my purple led shorty and xl didn't last as long as it's red counterpart, decided to do some voltage testing on them. These are both under 20 charges old (6 for the xl, 17 for the shorty). Used wow cartos at 2.2ohm's as usual, fresh off the charger. Tested the Purple led's twice and am posting the best time of the two.

Shorty with red led
4.2 at start (as), 4.2 (9min in), 4.18 (18min), 4.18 (27min), 4.16 (36min), 4.10 (45min), 4.05 (54min), 4.03 (63min), 4.02 (72min), 4.0 (81min), 3.98 (90min), 3.97 (99min), 3.94 (108min), 3.88 (117min), 3.73 (126min), 2 minutes later flashes

Shorty with purple led
4.2 at start (as), 4.19 (9min in), 4.17 (18min), 4.15 (27min), 4.13 (36min), 4.10 (45min), 4.04 (54min), 4.02 (63min), 4.0 (72min), 3.98 (81min), 3.94 (90min), 3.92 (99min), 3.85 (108min), 3.76 (117min), just under 4 minutes after that flashes

That was an 8 minute difference, not to mention the voltage wasn't held above 4 as long...

XL with red led
4.2 (as), 4.2 (9min), 4.2 (18min), 4.2 (27min), 4.2 (36min), 4.2 (45min), 4.17 (54min), 4.16 (63min), 4.14 (72min), 4.11 (81min), 4.09 (90min), 4.07 (99min), 4.06 (108min), 4.04 (117min), 4.02 (126min), 4.0 (135min), 4.0 (144min), 3.97 (153min), 3.96 (162min), 3.93 (171min), 3.92 (180min), 3.9 (189min), 3.89 (198min), 3.87 (207min), 3.85 (216min), 3.83 (225min), 3.81 (234min), 3.8 (243min), 3.8 (252min), 3.79 (261min), 3.76 (270min), 3.74 (279min), 3.72 (288min), 3.7 (297min), got 2 seconds before a flash.

XL with purple led
4.2 (as), 4.2 (9min), 4.2 (18min), 4.2 (27min), 4.19 (36min), 4.17 (45min), 4.15 (54min), 4.13 (63min), 4.12 (72min), 4.1 (81min), 4.08 (90min), 4.06 (99min), 4.03 (108min), 4.01 (117min), 4.0 (126min), 3.99 (135min), 3.97 (144min), 3.95 (153min), 3.92 (162min), 3.9 (171min), 3.89 (180min), 3.88 (189min), 3.86 (198min), 3.85 (207min), 3.83 (216min), 3.80 (225min), 3.79 (234min), 3.78 (243min), 3.76 (252min), 3.74 (261min), 3.73 (270min), 3.72 (279min), 7 minutes later was time for a recharge.

13 minute difference, and once again the voltage didn't hold as long. So while purple led are gorgeous, they seem to run shorter than their singled color counterparts (if you look in a mirror you can see it's a blue and red led to make the purple color). Not a huge difference, and to some the color combo is just as important as the functionality of the batt itself. Hope someone finds this useful.

Veeery interesting. I love the look of the purple LEDs. Seems the die-hard purplites(?) are sticking with their guns. That's love, baby.

Been wanting to grab one of these, myself, and I don't think the charging difference would be enough to deter me.

Very killer research. Great find, man. I wonder if V4L could use this info? I'm no LED man... does anybody know whether there is a true purple LED or not to remedy the red/blue doubling?

You are all quite welcome. :) In the same boat, the 10 or so less minutes are worth it for the beauty of the purple.

Keener sir, they use one on the regular versions, only problem is it's a uv that is very close to white. Took working on my computer to tell it was a purple led, caused the coolant in there to grow it's nice shade of neon green it only does when uv is on it. :)

Is that the one you refer to as a blacklight? I still want one.

Oh Katz, you've got to get a Chrome Diamond with purple LED. Mine makes me feel positively regal!

I would've liked Platinum, but they're discontinued. I have a couple of chrome XLs, they feel very slippery, probably cos I'm used to shorties. I was thinking about getting some matte black regulars with either purple or blue leds, but chrome might be nice too. I have way too many batteries.

Oh wow, my previous post was my 500th !!! Yay me!

 I can't believe I missed that, and I posted right after you did.

Congrats on your 500th, Katz!!:toast:

Back to topic: It's funny how different people perceive the same things so differently. I don't think I have any platinum batteries to make the comparison with, but to me the Chrome is simply beautiful and classic. (Of course, with my 1930's Art Deco kitchen and master bath, all black-and-white with Chrome "jewelry"/hardware, I would favor Chrome, I guess!:))
