Yeah. They came up with this kind of inspections when they figured out contractors were requesting progress draws for work that wasn't complete. I've actually gone out to a project because the requested a roof draw. Drive down the street and units look good. Park and walk around back and they hadn"t roofed the backsides

It never ceases to amaze me how people will try to pull some crap like that. Sometimes I get people mad at me when they fail a weld test. I'm just going by the code book and its not my fault if they can't pass. I had a guy from a company that I tested three people from that accused me of failing a couple of his guys the first time so I could charge more test fees. I am very honest and straight forward with my work and let him know it. I also asked him why I would risk losing my certification and risk my company having a lawsuit just to make a few hundred dollars. It doesn't make sense and I never would. Most of my work is electrical troubleshooting and repair. We only do the weld testing as a convenience for our customers and are lucky to break even between software and equipment expenses.

Just sitting at the house. Kids are grown up and moved out. No grand kids yet so no sense fighting the crowds in this heat to watch fireworks. County building inspectors only look to see if its built to code, bank progress inspectors are only allowed to look and see if its complete. Since I'm a certified inspector homeowners can hire me to come and inspect that the work is done to spec and quality is good before they sign off on a draw payment. I just can't do that and bank inspector on same project. It's funny but not many do that. I've talked to a few and the just go well the county inspector looks at it so why pay you extra. They just don't think about the fact that just because its to code and legal it's not always right

That's kind of like the auto repair place that we use offers vehicle inspections where they go thru a vehicle before you buy it. I told my wife that when we buy my oldest daughter a car that it is definitely getting inspected before I buy it. I know there's no guarantees in life but it will at least let us know if there's anything wrong with it at the time of purchase.

Money well spent doesn't count any more, at least neither in the UK or France. Both, at the end of the fionancial year, throw money away, more or less, in the form of equipement or similar, so that they have the same allowance the following year to buy new gear. I'm talking about publicly owned companies, don't really know about the private sector, but I supose it's the same in big companies, with little factories all over the place.
I've seen some in the UK literally breaking big engines so that their allowance for buying stays at the inflation level!!!
Probably different in the US as there aren't so many publicly owned industries, as far as I know, which isn't very far, TBH ;)
