It depends. Something needs to let air get to the hole in the bottom of the carto. Real 901 attys and cartos have a hole in the middle of their side to let in air so they don't care as much about getting air in through their threaded end hole.

If the center post of your mod's threaded atty socket has a recessed groove cut all the way across the post (like PigCig which is 901 and the brand of Riva 901 at Liberty-Flights) then most KR808D-1 cartos will get airflow without an adapter. If the atty socket post is just a featureless flat circle or a flat circle with a hole in the middle, you might need to provide additional airflow for some cartomizers. The KR808D-1 cartomizers I use all have a bit of a groove cut across the center post of the carto so those cartos might not need an adapter (depends how well the groove is cut). But some so-called KR808D-1 cartos (like leCig D1 and the maybe the Vapornine ones) do not have a groove cut across the center post of the carto so they would be more likely to need an adapter.

BTW Vapor4Life Coolcart blanks, according to them, are 3.4 ohms and do have a groove cut across the post

Probably a stupid ??? But will I fry my KR 808 carts screwed into a 901 threaded 5 volt box mod , and what's a good atty for a 5 volt box mod, I'm used to cartomizers, never done the separate atty deal before .

The best atomizer/cartomizer for a 5 volt PV, IMO is the low bridge 801 or BE112 (Liberty Flights) which also comes in a mini version (Ikenvape). A good and very inexpensive 801 carto is the one MadVapes sells. Many vets use 801 type attys/cartos.

No big deal. Standard 808 carto is about 3 ohms, while higher resistance, like vapor4life coolcarts, might push to about 3.3 - 3.4 ohms.

That's actually "sweet spot" vaping, right around 8W power. (5x5/3).

You can also use nominal 808 low resistance, down around 2.5 - 2.6 ohms, but I've always found that kind of harsh, pushing at about 10W.

(A classic 808 pass-through, like many of us have used, and enjoyed, is a 4.8 - 5V 808.)
