I still can't decide if I should try the adapter and cartomizers with my eGo.
My cart mod works just fine, so unless somebody can give me a really, really good reason to try them, I won't.

Ideally, opinions from vapers who have used the standard 510 carts and the 808D-1 cartomizers on the 510/eGo. Thanks.

lark, would be an idea just from a filling perspective.

It's a different style of vaping...and for the price of an adapter and a pack of blanks, it's not a huge investment.

You'll notice some flavor/vapor difference....you might like it better, might not. Everyone has an opinion though.

I like my cartos since I bring 2 with me and thats all I do for the whole day...no dripping.

It's worth a try.

I personally don't think they replace each other.....but experimenting is always fun.

from whom?

Bought them all from Happy Vaper, so I'm pretty sure they're not knock-offs. I treat all my atty's the same, use the same juice etc. Only difference is in how I clean them, which I only do after they stop behaving properly, and nothing restores them to new, no matter how much they glow. I've "lost" three out of five so far, so I'm not talking about a huge sample size though.

I've got one good atty I've found so far that's lasted over a month with no cleaning. If they built them well, they should all last that long as far as I'm concerned. At their heart, attys are fairly simple devices.

Look at all the threads about inconsistent behaviour from 510 atties, then compare it with all other models. There are manufacturing issues that aren't user error.

I find that a KR8 carto works very well on an eGo, if you leave the cone off. With the cone on the draw is just a bit too tight, like sucking on a thick milkshake, imho.

Apparently the 510 cartos fit well with cone. I've got a couple packs coming in and once they're here I'll report back.

I dremelled my cone using a stone sanding looking bit, just on the end on the inside only, appearance looks the same but the drag is light now, no more sucking on thick milkshakes!

Thanks, all valid points. Well, you convinced me. I don't suppose Jack would be open to the idea of giving you a commission? :D

It seems that some knock-offs did make their way into the supply of good Joye 510 attys.

I don't know if it was Joye that used some bad materials or some wholesaler along the line switched them. That problem should be corrected by now and fresh stock 510's will last a good length of time... (I didn't experience this 1st hand...)

I don't know if this is always true, but the good Joye attys have small "hairs" down in them that looks like the cart got stuck. Also the area around the element under the "V" is kidney shaped. The really cheap ones, don't have these features and look much like the inside of a 901.

Also when you read about 510 failures remember that the majority of people use 510's so just by the numbers there are going to be more failures.. And.. the 510 is a popular choice for mods. When you are pumping 6 volts to something meant for 3.5 volts that is going to cause more failures, plus with it being lowest resistance atty, that is also going to stress it more under extreme use/mods.

A very simple test, which attys are you claiming as originals. The photo on the left or the photo on the right. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-cigarette-maintenance/75510-510-atomizer-dead-week.html post #30

The one on the left is a JoyE original, the one on the right is a clone or SLB.

I use my SLBs with my regulated 5V box mod. I sure wish I can get my hands on SLBs, I prefer them at 5V, but they suck big buffalo cajonas at 3.1V (standard 510 voltage.) Yup, that is 3.1V not a mistake.

Edit: I would like to apologise to the members for my mistake. My comment was inappropriate wrt the happy vaper. Although there may seem to be some improprieties between postings and editing (times) I was checking my invoices and posting comments.

The comment has been struck and an apology to Jack has also been carried out.

The mistake was an honest one as I had 3 orders come in at the same time. I have never ordered any attys from Jack, God knows I ordered everything else under the sun from him.

The SLBs came from http://www.viecs.com/ and http://www.xtremevaping.com/index.php

True but the real 901 or RN4075 looks like a real JoyE 510. One thing about the clones though, because you don't have the wick (funny hairs) you won't get the burnt taste of an atty that went dry neither.

Well they are marketed as Joye ones I believe, and they look like the pic on the left in that they have the fibreglass wick sticking out from under the bridge.

I really just want to understand why some attys drop off in vapor production so quick no matter how I clean them, and others work fine for a month with nothing but occasional dry burns. I'm pretty confident I've ruled out user error as the cause.

Attys are odd beasts to say the least. I have one from HV that I started using occassionally about a month ago. Didn't matter what I did to it, the frigg'in thing just did not work properly. So I soaked it in Vodka, dried it out and did a quick dry burn with it. It seemed that the dry burn killed it (pop goes the weasel), or at least I thought it was dead. Tried it on 3 batts and it would not fire up. Tried it every day for a week, no change.

Tonight I connected it to my usb passthrough and holy smokes! Major atty action. I connected it to my eGo batt and good to go. It is now working like it is brand new.

Go figure.

What liquids are you vaping? Is this happening with different liquids, or just different attys?

I popped 2 801s in 2 days using some pure VG nic juice. Yet, the same batch or 801s are performing like champs with my juice, which has 20% or less VG. I am really trying to help, but folks need to determine their common denominator as well.

If you are buying good attys, then they should be lasting. That being said, attys are a disposable item. Many will also say that doing dry burns, will weaken and shorten the life span of attys. Using decent liquids also plays a big part in their lifespan.

One vendor uses up tp 30% flavouring in his juices. his Nic base is VG, diluted with SFS which stand for "sugar free syrup"

For folks that are allergic to PG, VG cut at a ratio of 4/1 with distilled water will give you the consistency of PG. Too much VG in carts doesn't flow well. VG = more Vapour, it also = less flavour, which in turn causes an increase in flavouring, and sugars and baking of attys.

You also need to rememebr another thing wrt vendors, they are out to sell stuff. So if vendor X has attys and juice for sale, do you think they really realyl care if their juice is causing pre-mature atty failures?

I do know one thing, the attys that came with the eGo are that fine attys. they are made by JoyE, for Janty and the eGo line. Who do you think sells their rejects?

Switched, I think you are mistaken. Unlike some Canadian suppliers, Jack purchases his 510 product direct from Joye. I'm thinking you got the atty that has the washer in it from somewhere else, as he has never sold any knock-offs. I've never seen an atty from Jack have the washer in it. Anyone else?

If you are curious, you should give him a call, as he always seems happy to talk to his customers.

What I've found with 510 attys is if I remove the fibers, I get a much better experience including no burnt taste and shorter break in period. This only works if you are a dripper. The carts don't wick as well once the fiber has been removed. As for an atty working on one device and not on another, it's probably the contact point at the bottom of the atty. If you put something in the hole (battery side) and gently bring the center piece down a bit, it should fire on any device.

Hope that helps.
