I've found myself with over 15 Kr808 - G4 Ver. 2 type cartomizers. That's after having vaped with several of them. I have 2.0 Ohm, 2.8 Ohm and 3.2 Ohm...at least nominally. These I have new in the wrappers from purchasing 25 total from 2 vendors.

One company orignally offered a Ver. 1 V-Named product that was a good vape but the cartomizers were prone to leakage. It seems there was an interum offering and then a Ver. 2. The other supplier provided cartozmizers that by all appearances look to be the same as the former's V2.

I have one or two old...er, let me say Ver. 1.5 that may have come from the aforementioned interum offering. The one I'm vaping at present works well and doesn't leak. It has the 'wicking paper(?)' on the outside of the bottom cup. The Ver. 2's moved the wicking paper to the inside of the bottom cup. The bottom cup is upside down at the bottom of the cartomizer above the horizontal coil.

The difficulty I'm having with the later ones is that they draw juice up the center tube...nasty stuff, if you didn't already know. I've yet to try the 2.0 Ohm cartos yet, but they look to be the same as the others.

I'd prefer not to disassemble and hack the wicking paper, or whatever might be its proper name. I 'might' hack them for a 'for sure' fix. I wonder if the coils may be too high or two low atop their pedistals underneath the cups. I'm giving thought to using a paper clip to push the coil either up or down from either the battery hole or down the tube.

I think the G4 design is perhaps a decent one with the right tweaks. I'm hoping you share thoughts and experiences that may be useful towards eliminating the juice drawing up the center tube.

My G4's are very similar to the photo, except they have a metalic (plated?) ring at the very top of the mouthpiece. By the way, the tips are great in many (check depth to top of filler) typical metal 808 cartos.

I don't know how much I can help (I've only been vaping since December 2011.) Anyway, I've used the exact same clearos you are talking about and you are right; the tips are great to save to use on regular metal 808 carts.

I like the design and I really want these G42 or Vortex 2 or whatever they may be called these days to work. I've found you can't really "chain vape" with them; sometimes you need to let the liquid/juice sort of settle and you will see the bubbles float back up from the bottom. You can't take the tip off or unscrew it from the battery while it's hot after a vape because you are risking it cracking/expanding/loosening thereby eventually leaking.

So basically, even when you let it cool down; if you unscrew it from your battery to put it on a new battery or something you have to dump all the fluid into a "condom" or something and start all over again. It almost seems to me to even take the tip off for any reason while there is liquid/juice in the clearo connected to your battery will get you into trouble.
Since I've been trying to do all of the above I've had more success but eventually the heating coil at the bottom gets so full of juice crud that the clearo becomes unusable and I've only successfully cleaned 1 out of about the 10 that I've used and I can't remember exactly what order I went into but it was some combination of letting it dry and then using a paperclip to gently scrape from the bottom end, and I probably just got lucky with that and haven't tried repairing/cleaning one since.

So I've sort of settled into using them around the house (but not always), and still buying "normal" carts for I guess about 75% of my vaping. I really want them to be perfected and at some point be able to vape with no fear of inhaling synthetic fiber/polyfill.

Pleased to meet you. I was born in Kentucky.

the top coil horizontals are often improved by doubling the wick

either placing an extra wick right on top of the existing coils/wick, or just re coiling around a double thick or doubled wick

if I owned one of these I would be happy to try, but I don't atm. But I can def see it working, it would give you a bit more 'filler space' or time before the coil gets flooded and starts causing issues, might be just enough to get it perfect

as far as gunky coils, do you guys dry burn these? that works magic on the top coil clearos

Hi Norm and Cyrus -

Thanks for the comments, but I'm not sure we are talking about the same type cartos. The G4's are bottom coil and have no filler. I'll see if I can find some more illustrative pictures or maybe do a drawing. The wick is a very short one...length is the same as the diameter of the carto. The wick with coil around it sits on top of the threaded base.

These can be dry burned, but I'm uncertain if that may cause them to then leak from the battery hole.

I think we are talking about the same product but they go by different names. I got mine here:
808D Bottom feed transparent Clear-o-mizer

I tried a "dry burn" once. I was unsuccessful with that, but perhaps the carto was not "dry" enough when I did it. I expected to see some smoke coming out if the juice gunk was being burned off the coil but never did (plus all my batteries have a pretty short "auto shutoff."

Perhaps I don't really understand the ins and outs of the "dry burn" method...

Thanks,

Norman

you really need a manual to do dry burns properly

best thing to do IMO is be patient. do three second dry burns, stop, blow it out. repeat. repeat. repeat. sometimes it can take a while before you see cherry red. when you see cherry red, its working. and it will stop smoking at this point. just keep watching and pulsing. eventually itll look brand new.

cool breeze when I said "filler" i wasn't being literal. all i meant was that increasing the wick area will give you more space for juice before a coil flood, analogous to adding some 'filler' material to act as a buffer between the juice reservoir and the coil

regardless of how short the wick is, you can make it thicker with a new wick, or adding a second wick on top

Okay...perhaps I did a little hasty read of your post and didn't absorb it properly. There's some good thoughts there. These seem to dry burn okay as I now seem to remember. I've earlier ones glowing cherry red and usually by accident...juice level too low.

On the current replacement model...the ones with the funnel shaped tubes, I had at least one start to leak immediately after a dry burn.

leaking secondary to a dry burn....

well two thoughts

either the dry burn played with the integrity of some kind of sealant at the bottom of the tube (not sure as to the anatomy of these things, I don't have one)

OR...if you dry burned with juice in the tube (not a true dry burn, see below), that will act to pull way too much juice into the coil after the dry burn and cause a flood/leak. This will happen with tanks and top coil clearos as well.

for a true dry burn, you need to make sure your clearo has been flushed and is empty. it can be kind of damp with water or whatever, that just makes it take longer to get cherry red and clean. but as above if you get a dry hit with juice in the tube, you're gonna get a flood

Gosh, my heart breaks thinking about these things.

The ease of filling, the look of them, the product when (of) they work properly...all amazing.

Unfortunately, they're a nightmare. Leaking, gurgling, dry hits....I even had one fall apart on me as I was unscrewing it from my battery (what a mess and waste of my Orange Julius e-juice -___- )

Really wish I could lend some help, but I all i can conjure up is an "I feel your pain."

Properly modded fluxos work flawlessly for me and seem to last for over

Come on board cool breeze

I'm so JELLY.

I just can't seem to mod these damn things right...hell, I can't even get the silicone ring out with practically destroying it. I thought I successfully modded one once - I was in heaven...was never going to need to get another type of carto again...then I filled it up for a second time and got nothing but a plastic flavor. </3

I can try and help you through this at some point godAWFUL

Good news is gotvapes will soon (within days) have a new revision with totally different cups

just some quick thoughts before I go to the hospital to get beat up all day

new fluxos take about one fill at least half a carto of vaping for the flavor to soak in. once it gets 'seasoned' no more plastic taste. I've never gotten a plastic taste from having the sealing ring in the wrong position, so not sure what's going on here. but new fluxos often have a transient funny plastic taste. the black mouthpiece also has a bit of a plastic thing to it as well, until it 'breaks in,' or just don't use it. substitute a volt carto mouthpiece or a drip tip.

fresh out of the box, the most difficult thing to remove is the bottom silicone bottom cup. you need something very thin, and you have to be gentle and slow. did you watch the video on the gotvapes subforum by badkolo? you have to make sure you don't snag coil or wick as you're doing this

the best mod for me has been to use the middle thin black silicon ring, ribs down. and it doesn't have to be that snug, just touching the atomizer cup. if you've lost the bottom cup and/or the middle silicon ring, the black mouthpiece/any cartomizer mouthpiece will work perfectly as a substitute. just slice it in half with something really sharp and place it in ribs down.

don't want to de rail this thread, feel free to come over to the clearomizer round up thread and discuss further

I've gotten into a fresh box of these (~2.7 Ohms) and seem to be having better luck. It has occurred to me that the problems I've been experiencing may be happening after cleaning. I use a turkey baster and PGA, though I may switch to 150 proof vodka per economics. I'll try to post back here after I've cleaned some that I know to be working better (no heavy liquid up the tube...occassional light liquid at present).

After one cleaning of a couple of cartos from the fresh box, I'm finding them holding up OK. I still get a little juice in the center tube, but very little makes it to the mouth. I'm coming up on a big cleaning operation with many cartos, bottles etc. I'll continue to make note the G4 performance with more cleanings.

The 2nd box of G4's have held up okay through a 2nd cleaning. Again, a small bit of juice in the center tube, but can mostly be blown out. ...a decent product at this point. I still have a third box of fresh G4's to go.

I don't suppose the carto manufacturers want to put themselves out of business by making really good cartos. I'm on a list to get a rebuildable atty-tank...G-Bell Genesys by Yenki69.

Hi Cyrus,

The G-Bell Genesys Atty was available for order for only about 24 hours. I guess the stars just happened to be aligned for me. I hadn't been looking for such, but the situation was right and I did a little searching and made a good hit. The order list will re-open, I think when Yenki gets on with production of the 1st batch.

I think we are not supposed to link to other forums... If you Google, "Yenki69" and just below the Y-Tube video listings should be a link. You may like this. I don't know what the production schedule is, but assume it's getting underway.

PM if I can provide further info.

As far as the Phoenixes, you might look and perhaps comment here... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/nhaler/294390-crystal-vision-cartomizers.html or I could be confused as usual.

I did think of you, but the list was closed at that time.
