Anyone move to the Protege from the kr808d? what do you think? I am 1 week analog free and vaping on the manual 808 w/catromizers. I get good drags with a fresh cartomizer and fully charged battery but it tapers off pretty quickly. I think I need to go a different route because I seem to be burning up the cartos by trying to get a better drag. I took a couple apart and see burn holes in the filler material. I don't think I would mind dripping if I could get consistent drags with strong throat hit. If anyone has made this switch and is happy, please let me know your thoughts. also, which atty would best suit my needs?

Thanks

get a 510 battery mod (protege) and grab a 510 -> kr808D-1 adapter and have the option to use both. With all the adapters available the protege can use practically any atty you choose with the 510 as a base.

here's a pic of the 510 protege with 510 to kr808D-1 adapter beside a 510 atomizer for size comparison.

As you can see, with the adapter, the cartomizer is still shorter than the 510.

Thanks randpost. I noticed you have a 36mg cart. Does it give a stronger drag than the 24Mg's and are the V4L carto's any better than the plain black ones? I seem to burn the black ones up pretty quick even though I don't let them get dry. Also, do you find yourself dripping more than using the cartomizer and how does the usb passthrough compare to the protege?

Thanks for your help.

haha i WISH i had the 510 adapter for the protege... i have a ridiculous contraption going... i wish i could take a picture right now of it even... protege w/ 801 adapter, 801-to-510, 510-to-901, 901 extension with a hole drilled in it, and finally the cartomizer with a 901 whistle tip on it (lol)...

Dripping IMHO is a PITA. always have to have a bottle of juice around... and it seems like i have to drip every 5-10 puffs. even my short drive to and from work (maybe 10 minutes) SUCKS while trying to drip.

the battery on the protege works pretty well through out the day with a cartomizer on there... i just had to switch mine after puffing on it for a couple hours last night, and it's 4pm now sooo not too bad. the battery life for me drastically decreased when i started with cartomizers, because of the small puffs -> big puff while holding the button. takes more battery draw on a cartomizer it seems to get a good puff. and so far they're hit and miss with me. i haven't figured out the art of filling a cartomizer yet, or what juices to go with. i think i need to make a 16mg juice batch up with about 30% pg to make myself happy on a cartomizer.

i thought i heard that PS was going to make a cartomizer (kr808b) adapter...?

I took delivery of a Protege about a month ago. I'm using the 510 adaptor and the combination has relegated my kr808 to occasional use when out and about. Matter of fact, I like the Protege so much I just ordered my second as a back up. If you go that route keep in mind that in addition to the 510 you can also order adaptors for an 801 and 901... terrific little unit!

I have both the Protege and a couple of Prodigys. I'm 510's all the way with an occasional 901 (hold the mustard).
Tried the carts and I'm either not doing something right or they don't hit like the 510's.
I get plumes of vapor. *Plumes*

When you first change from analogs you'll tend to vape more. It's just that reassurance that every things going to be OK or something your mind goes through.
A good battery PV (even at just 3.7) will solve the constant batt changing and inconsistencies of vapor production.
"It'll calm you down".

The higher mg stuff is more satisfying in the beginning. You'll get a little buzzz from the nic monster :)
*Kinda reminds me of days gone by.....*
Without the harshness of the analogs you'll intake more nicotine and your brain will like that (It's addictive). You'll be like that little hamster at the water bottle full of ........ (vape, vape, vape, vape, vape)
I use to drink coffee all day. Now I'm lucky if I drink two cups in the mornings. But, I'm wide awake 8-o

Congrats on getting off of the .... sticks. You'll find your level of satisfaction soon. Just takes a while to figure it all out....

I cant tell the difference between 36mg, 24mg, and 18mg. I don't have a high sensitivity to nicotine. I can tell a difference in flavor in the different nic strengths. I end up refilling them with 50/50 vg and pg. they produce alot of vapor and still last 10+ refills.

I have plain black cartos, v4l cartos and some paper bag cartos (bulk cheapos). I have no problem with the different brands. They all last about the same amount of time on the prefill liquids. I refill with 50/50 VG and PG mix and vapor is good. Some say the carts get clogged fairly easy with VG, but I found they last just as long with 100% PG as they do with a 50/50 mix.

I only refill 2 carts in the morning or the night before and they last me all day. I prefer the V4L carts because they have the flavor stamped on them and are color coded. Plus customer service is outstanding. SO for dripping into the carts, I really don't need to do that much.

The USB passthrough performs better than the protege. More vapor, more throat hit. Not really a fair comparison though.

5v on the prodigy via cartomizer is outstanding.

I used KR808D1 for 4 months until I got my Protege. I haven't used the KR808D1s since.

I have tried to use them again, but they are just so unfulfilling compared to the Protege - tase, battery life, hit quality. I found the KR808D1 also altered taste of liquids so much I thought every liquid was nasty. I can taste liquids again.

Ben @ VaporNine has some interesting things available now that may improve the KR808D1 experience.

Wow, don't think I've ever been on a forum where people were so helpful.

Think I will get a passthrough for home and the Protege for work etc...

Where did you buy the KR808d to 501 adapter?

Thanks again.

Steve mentioned in another post he plans to release a kr808 adapter. That would be sweet.

He has NOT said when. ;)

BTW, the greencig cartomizers are much better, longer lasting, and do not burn.

why do i see so much debate, one post says greencig, another says V4L, another some other brand.... i'd really like to see a overclockers.com style comparison on all of the cartomizers out there right now...

with some kind of automated contraption that could have baseline tests to see how much vacuum for each one to draw, and vapor production.

not to mention tearing one down, with detailed pictures of the process, etc. explaining whats in each one. if my grammer wasn't so horrid i'd think about doing that...

Yes, there's been a flame war over whether there are any differences between V4L's and other supplier's kr808 cartomizers. Probably the same except for the wrappers, but I'll stay out of that one.

The greencig cartomizer is made quite differently from the kr8008 - much better design and function, and priced accordingly.

I had stop using my cartomizers because they usually didn't put out a lot of vapor or were sometimes to hard to draw to get anything or get enough smoke like I liked. But when Vapor Country came out with their 510 to KR808 adaptor, I got one and my carts now have never put out this much vapor/ smoke EVER, Its great with my Prodigy, I love it now and now all those carts that were stored in the cabinet are coming out for a new and exciting experience thanks to that adaptor and a 5-6V Prodigy. Believe me its a new experience for those who enjoy cartimozers.

510. This is really a whole different league than the KR808D1.

As far as the carts "burning" blah blah blah, imho it's a bunch of parrots repeating what one guy said. We discussed a methodology on the V9 forum here for refilling the carts, as long as I used that the performance was excellent (by cart standards) for weeks on end.

I may get a KR808D1 adapter for the Protege just so I can use up my remaining carts.
