It's the charger itself. Gen 2 batts use a different cell than gen 1 batts, and a different ic. The gen 1 chargers will charge them to 4.16-4.22v off load. Same range as the gen 2. The gen 2 chargers though will charge a gen 1 batt to 4.27v and above off load. Way past what they should.

One thing to consider ... using the 3.6v regulated passthru will give you a "consistant" vaping experience... that is your passthru will perform the same as your batts ... if that is what you are after of course. The amp rating of the power source is very important ... read the label. Use Ohms law: (required amps) = (volts)/(carto resistance) as a guide.

For what it's worth, I use an unregulated one on my laptop with no problems. When I stuck it in a wall adapter the power sucked, so I've just stuck with my laptop.

But even though this laptop is newish, I really hate it--- so maybe my subconscious is hoping I'll fry it so I can buy a new one

I use usb PT on a computer with no problem. If I get the urge I can do some definitive testing since I have maybe 5 to 7 working laptops and 10 or more running desktops and servers. I have been repairing computers and other electronic devices for 20 years.

I have a couple of smoovecigs branded regulated 3.7v working direct on gigabyte sandy-bridge I7's. Their usb 2.0 ports are software controlled and can be designated as always on high power suitable for charging an iphone. ie: 2.1amp.

I am awaiting delivery of a VV passthrough which can go up to 4.7 if the usb port will supply it.
There are plenty of ac-> usb chargers now that supply 2.2 amps at 5v and there is even an amazon basics version I believe...

This will supply any PT on the planet I would think. I came here looking for info on diagnosing 808-d1 batteries of the current era. I will post that in a new thread.

actually recently when using my old pass through my laptop would suddenly lose power completely, instantly shutting off. i never really considered it was the cause but that could be a possibility. everything worked fine after the restart. and im fairly certain it wasnt overheating because i checked the temperature afterwards.

I've only been doing this a week, but in my starter kit I got a wall charger that I use for charging my two 808 sticks and I bought separately a USB passthru which I use all the time on a fairly new Win7 laptop with no problems. However, the passthru doesn't work with the wall charger, only the laptop. The USB adapter will charge the batts from the computer, but the passthru does not work with the wall charger. I have no idea what the volts or any of the rest of that stuff is. I got it all a week ago from MyVaporStore, if that tells anyone anything.

I love sitting just here, puffing on the passthru, reading blogs and gettin' ...... off about how lousy everything is and how much better everything was when I was a kid... now I gotta worry about crashing my laptop? Great! It's just one damn thing after another... over and over.
