I could have sworn the top cap was removable from the sleeve, but I can't get the freakin thing off no matter how hard I try. Is it not supposed to be removed? It moves a little bit, so I thought it was just stuck somehow... but man, it's really on there. I don't want to break it! I was hoping to separate it from the sleeve so I could heat treat the sleeve to get a nice color.

If you mean the airflow section, yeah it's removable and a pain in the ///. It's held on to the body by 2 thin o-rings. My airflow adjustment was way to tight, could hardly turn it so I took it off and removed one of the o-rings, adjust fine now.

You could maybe try soaking it in some hot water, that might loosen it up a little, also try turning as your pulling, less chance of damaging the o-rings that way. Would be much easier if their was some knurling to grab on to but that might ruin the look for some. Once you get a little gap where it meets you can usually pry it apart easier.

Yeah, I tried running it under hot water while turning and pulling... I can get a tiny gap, just barely enough to dig a nail into, but it won't come out. I've tried pressing outwards from inside using various objects, I just can't get the thing to budge.

Now that I know it is meant to come apart, I'll have at it again with a little more brute force.

I used a brass punch on the inside and tapped it out with a deadblow while holding the tank cover, once I got a good gap I used a thin screwdriver to make the gap larger until it came apart-no problem with nicks or gouges (thank you stainless!), although the process took forever. I didnt like the fact that with only one o-ring it would come apart easier and perhaps mess with the airflow so I put it back together after making sure the o-rings weren't twisted or uneven-now it seems even HARDER to adjust, so I'm going to have to start the process all over again!! Damn me and my overthinking, OCD brain!!
