Kraken Issues

I'm relatively new to vaping and bought a Kraken for my first rebuildable. My local vape store was nice enough to assist me in building it correctly, so I could do it myself in the future.

I'm running it on a anarchist mod (copper contacts) with a sony VCT5. We used a dual wick comprised of stainless steel marine cable, an ecowool sleeve (2mm), and .28 kanthal that came out to .9Ω.

The problem: My protank 3 produces more flavor and vapor. To even get the kraken to start producing usable amounts of vapor, I have to remove the hood and blow on the coils.

I believe my solution is to cut down on the resistance in the coils, but I want to make sure that I'm not just going to blow up near $400 of phallic compensation.

Any and all help or suggestions are welcome, I still do not have as firm a grasp on what I'm doing as I would like.

Dual coil at 0.9 is too high if you want clouds. Drop down to dual 0.4 and you should be fine. Make sure to line up the airholes to the coils. One of my krakens is built exactly like yours, but its dual 0.4 ohms and it produces great flavor and vapor.

I'd highly recommend going back to your local vape shop for advice. When it comes to building coils it's really best to get in-person help.

As for answering your question from here - at .9ohms you should be getting a lot more vapor than a protank will make. And I know the kraken is a good mod. Can you tell if it's an authentic kraken or a clone? A real one will have cost upwards of 100 bucks. If you're not sure, compare with photos on the internet - searching "Authentic kraken" and "Kraken clone" or something like that to see which yours is more like.

The only problem I can think of off the top of my head is that the airholes may be too small to get a lot of vapor. Bigger airholes will allow more air onto the wick and more sweet vapor into your lungs. If it produces a fair amount with the cap off and less with it on I'm betting that's the issue. Another might be that coil is touching the hood and you're losing power to that - if this is the case you'll be able to feel a buzz when you fire it.

And I don't know much about cable wicks, but I'd recommend using a cotton wick if you're just learning. Like I said, I've never done it, but when it comes to building your own cotton seems a LOT easier.

But, again, the very best advice you can get on this is in person. Hopefully the fellows at your store are nice enough to devote some time to helping you out - the guys at my store are really great, they'll build coils for customers for free or provide full tutorials.

Nothing on this setup is a clone. The site I bought it from was linked from all of ViscousAnt's social media outlets, and the anarchist clones are not available yet (as far as I know its still pre-orders only, but that's off topic, I bought a real one).

I also bought a kraken clone for funsies, and while they are similar, the clone is very obviously the clone.

Alright. So I'm thinking airholes. Extending your airholes is actually pretty easy with the right tools. I'd recommend using a dremel, just grab a bit that's a bit larger than that hole is and, well.. you'll figure it out. I extended the airholes on my Nimbus with very few problems, after I found the right bit (I tried using a round one at first, then switched to a cone-shaped one). I've heard that a powerdrill works too, but it'll be a lot messier and a lot more difficult. A friend's friend tried it and ended up scratching the hell out of his atty.

Most atty's actually do need the airholes extended if you run a low enough ohmage. You will eventually need to do it if you start running low enough resistance - but start small. I question the wisdom of starting out at .9 ohms and with cable. It's a good vape for sure but, again, start easy.

The airholes are fine with the Kraken. It has AFC so open them all up to get max airflow. I have done 0.7 dual coil builds on mines (3 of them) and are not as satisfying as my current set ups of dual 0.4 with ss cable and ekowool sleeves. With these materials barely any 'genny tilts' are needed. Just here and there.

You're Kraken is authentic if the serial on it says US#####. The replicas come with china serials of CN#####.

Try to rebuild it with my setup and see if you like it. I'm satisfied with my builds.

Solution: cut it down to .35, the guys at my local vape store had never seen a genni blow clouds like mine.

So, is it better now? Because from my experience, 0.4 dual is the best setup on all of the juices I run on it.

Yes, at .35Ω it is fantastic. I've completely quit smoking and in the few days that it's been I have not even thought about having a cigarette. I prefer it to smoking, I don't think I'm gonna be able to give up vaping

That's great to hear. I'm glad it's working out great for you.

If you're still on that cable/eco sleeve build, that build will last you months if you maintain it properly. What I do when it looks like it's all gunked up is just to clean it by running hot water, then dry burn until the eco is back to white. Then rejuice and vape away!

try changing the wick. I was using mesh and the flavor and vapor was fantastic. It was even better than some of the RDAs.
