Kraken SS Mesh build & a question.

After many failed attempts at a stainless mesh build on my Kraken clone. I finally got a dual coil mesh build to work. 28ga kanthal coil running at about .5 ohms. It's from focalecig and has the threaded cap. I get great clouds from it.
My only concern is, I haven't been hitting it a lot but it gets really hot. Hotter than any other atomizer I've used. Is this normal? I just want to be safe. The battery isn't getting hot just warm.

I would not worry, a hot 'top' is common as the coil is right there at the top and right beside the airholes/top-cap and will heat up with repeated use. As long as the tube and/or button are not hot then you should be good to go.

OK thanks. It's just way hotter than I'm used to. I'll take a couple puffs and hit it with an infrared thermometer tomorrow at work because I'm curious about the actual temp.

Since it's a sub-ohm build, the atty will get warm to hot with continuous use. Like what Soulcatcher said, as long as the button and battery are not warm, you're ok. Make sure you're using a 30 amp battery with that build. It can be stressful on your battery, if not outright dangerous, if you're using anything less. If your drip tip gets warm, consider switching to a Delrin or a Pyrex drip tip. I prefer Delrin over glass because of my inherent clumsiness, but the Pyrex tips look great.

OK. It just got hotter faster than I am used to. It was the first time I've had a hot drip tip. Now I have an excuse to use my glow in the dark tip. I'd love a glass tip but I doubt it would last a day with me. The batteries are charging now because it's build night. Thank you.

Out of curiosity what does it mean if the button is getting warm? My battery is getting warm but not hot. I think the battery is only warm from the atomizer getting warm it's still cooler than the tube.

A hot button means you probably have a short....a hot battery means a short or too low ohms for that particular battery. Those are the 2 most common reasons, anyway.

On my tree of life mod the button get a little warm but it's probably from my hand. I don't think I get an accurate reading with my non-contact thermometer, the mod is either too shiny, too small, or both. I definitely don't have a don't have a short though.

Very normal. Mine does the same. I use a delrin insert between my drip tip and kraken and it still gets so damn hot when I hit it hard. And took me forever to build with SS mesh. I'm gonna rebuild with ss cable. I heard its a lot easier. Gotta love that genny tilt... not :/

I saw a YouTube video that recommended oxidizing before rolling. That made the difference for me.

Well you are running about 30 watts, so it's normal but not good.

The trick is to run high wattage without getting hot.
