KWY had posted an article claiming the dangers of propylene glycol in ecigs. Fear mongering at its finest.

"There’s no standard formula for an e-cigarette... But one of the things found in them is propylene glycol.. It’s a substance not to be trifled with, according to Tracy Kane, tobacco dependence treatment specialist at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

“It’s something you would find in antifreeze, and it is what’s in e-cigarettes,” she explains.. “That’s why I encourage people to use the FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapies instead of the e-cigarettes — because we know what’s in the FDA-approved ones.”"

I usually cut my antifreeze with 50 percent water. Is that "dangerous" too ?

The term "junk science" comes to mind ...

This made me curious... so i looked it up...

eCigarette
nicotine, propylene glycol, flavor

Nicotine Patch
nicotine, ethylene vinyl acetate-copolymer, polyisobutylene and polyethylene, polyester

Antifreeze
ethylene glycol, water, additives

From that list... I see nothing in common with Antifreeze... but, that could be because unlike the "Specialist"., I'm educated enough to know that Glycol is not a singular chemical and in fact refers to...

"any of a class of organic compounds belonging to the alcohol family"

Click that link... it's a pretty funny read. Especially paragraph 3

I'm thinking we need to raise awareness about Coffee!

I mean it contains a chemical that's in Anti-Freeze, is the main component in Acid Rain and is known to be the direct cause of thousands of deaths every year...
Water

It also contains a potentially deadly, highly addictive, psychoactive drug known to cause hallucinations and possibly death in large doses...
Caffiene

See this: The Importance of Engine Coolant aka Antifreeze

An alternative antifreeze base is propylene glycol. There is very little difference in the performance of either substance; the advantage is the toxicity level. Propylene glycol is significantly less toxic than ethylene glycol. This doesn't mean children or pets can ingest it without harm, but, like alcohol, propylene glycol is not toxic at low levels

Right, Elaine. This is where they slip up. They claim PG is in antifreeze, but it is there to make it far less toxic than DEG! They either don't understand that, or more likely, they hope no one looks into it. And most won't.

I cannot believe that these academic types don't know any better, so it follows they DO know and are using scary buzzwords to frighten the vast majority of people who will take what they say at face value and not look into it.

As several of our esteemed bloggers and forum members have said, this is public health malpractice at its worst. I can only hope that eventually they will be called to account for the lies they are perpetrating and the deaths they may be responsible for.

Sadly, I can (and do) believe that of many of them.

I agree, Ania. Of the "academics" who do know, yes, that's probably exactly what they are quite knowingly doing.
And yes, the vast majority of people (including "journalists") will take the academics' word for it without looking into it any further at all.

I hope that, too. But, again sadly... imho, that will never happen.

We should live so long to see those types become accountable. It would be amazing to see them ever admit they might not be as smart and clever as they think.

I suggest it very well may be because
the movement to e-smoking is so large
and accelerating at light-speed.

The movement today to e-smoking is at "warp speed"
and the truth travels with us.

Those opposed to e-smoking ... including the "easily offended"
are pulling their hair out because their lies are being debunked
as fast as they can come up with new ones.

By the way ...
E-cigarettes are here to stay !!
