You gals made me think of my grandmother with all the button talk :). She had a Mason jar of buttons and the lid had a pin cushion on it. I guess she made it unless those could be bought like that?? I used to go through her old costume jewelry, too; I never got it when she passed because I'm estranged from my father, but I LOVED going through her jewelry and buttons on her bed...

I collect scarves (source of my screen name) and handbags and Swarovski figurines. (And vaping supplies, but you knew that.)

But my big collection is perfume. The actual fragrances, not the bottles (although I do appreciate a pretty bottle). I have hundreds. I tend to like the esoteric, unusual and difficult to find. Best place to satisfy your scent jones for not much cash: Possets. She makes gorgeous fragrances inspired by literature, myth and history, for $11 each.
I just love talking about perfume:)

When my mom passed on I went through her jewelry drawer. Some beautiful costume pieces, 18 gold bangles (one for each year she was married to my dad...it was their anniversary thing), and random junk.

But the big mystery was a little quarter-sized red enamel tack pin with a cameo of Lenin on it. I never did find out whether that was just an odd souvenir, or if my mom was secretly a Communist.

Wow! You all collect some amazing and interesting things--I used to collect little dog figurines and such, but it turned into clutter and was just so messy because they were hard to keep dusted--I gave them all up eventually. I do have a collection of costume jewelery inherited from my grandmother, I haven't added anything to it, don't want to get rid of it, but don't know what to do with it, so I just save it in the tins that it was given to me in. It's mostly old Sara Coventry, Avon and a few others I don't remember the names of right off the top of my head.

Years ago I began collecting handbags, but my collection quickly outgrew my space to keep it in (mostly Dooney & Bourke and Coach) I sold a great deal of them on ebay last year and now have it down to about 40 or so bags that I really love, and made a deal with myself that I will only get a new one if I get rid of one.

I really enjoyed reading about all of your collections!

Scarf and Zooker, y'all made me realize that to other people I also collect shoes!!! I probly have 150 pair or more, but about a dozen I wear in summer and a dozen for winter!! But I will NOT give them up! Most of them were quite pricey, gorgeous, dressy shoes -- strappy sandals, classy HIGH heeled pumps, party shoes, high top sneakers, you name it, I've got it! And I SURE wouldn't get rid of my Charles Jourdan's!!!

LOL--yup, there ya go--shoe collector! I remember several years ago, I wasn't home, but my SIL came over to borrow something, and my son took her back to the spare bedroom to get it for her, and she spied my enormous handbag collection, which was positively spilling out of the closet at that point---several days later when she saw me, she razzed me so hard about having a purse fetish, oh my I felt so insulted!! I think I was just embarassed because it was obvious a huge collection, extravagant and costly, and for the most part unused. That's when it began to click that I had gone overboard and needed to consider selling them off.

I hate shoe shopping! I envy those that can wear the pretty, strappy sandals and high heels, I never could. I tromp around in the same two pairs of sneakers, work shoes and slippers. I do have some nicer flats to go with crop pants durning the summer months, but I rarely if ever put them on.

I too loathe shoe shopping. I thought I was the only one! I usually wear one or two pairs of sensible shoes to work. Any heel higher than 2" is an automatic no.

Your sister-in-law sounds like a classic buttinski. What skin is it off her nose if you have a lot of handbags? If you robbed starving children to buy them, it's a problem. If you spent the rent money, ditto. If your spent your own hard-earned money, it is NONE OF HER (EDITED) BUSINESS.
