Thanks Kumquat! It's not an attention thing for me (i usually read books at one sitting. unless i start reading at night- then i just fall asleep). It's a lazy thing....I like brain candy, and 'literature' is like a five course meal. ;) I admire people who read the classics, and admire the writing...I'm just too lazy to want to work that hard

I know I've read everything Grisham has written....he can't write fast enough for me! lol! And I've about read everything Patterson has written, so he better start writing faster, I'm working on Baldacci, to give the others some time..lol! And Stephen King I read occassionally..."Pet Cemetary, Under the Dome"...he can get kinda weird sometimes, and I'm not always in a weird mood. lol!

How did you find "Under the Dome"? King is so erratic. I thought it was a terrific idea but he failed in the execution and the ending was one of those, "never mind" endings which are so unsatisfying. I did like his last short story collection, "Full Dark, No Stars".

I liked "Under the Dome" but the ending could have been better. I haven't finished Full Dark yet......wow.....I can't believe I just said that

I still have to read 11/22/63.......

Honestly, I just don't understand wanting to read books you think are crappy when you could read stuff that's actually fun and inspiring and exciting like Donald Barthelme's 80 Stories. In my experience, it requires a lot more brain effort to read something which is garbage than somethng well written like Robert Coover's Pricksongs & Descants or The Collected Stories of Bernard Malmud or Ander Monson's Other Electricities or Lucy Corin's The Entire Predicament or Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves or Big Bad Love by Larry Brown, etc. It certainly takes a lot less energy and even reenergizes me to read good writing in the same way a well done steak is a lot more filling than a bag of Cheetos.

Oh goody! Another Stephen King fan! I'm with you on "Under the Dome". When I finished I thought, "I just read this massive book for this?" I was the same with "Cell". Great stories but seem a little unfinished. Sometimes I wonder if he is leaving openings for other books that may tie in to the endings like these. I read "Full Dark, No Stars" last month or so and absolutely loved it! Just finished 11/22/63 and really enjoyed it.

thanks for the suggestions- I'll check them out. Well written counts for a lot!

ETA I just put Robert Coover's "noir" and Donald Barthelme's "snowwhite" on hold at the library

(my library doesn't have a lot of the titles you suggested. sigh.)

Unfortunately, I cannot use the library right now....my son lost 2 expensive hard cover lego books, and now we owe them $50 :(

I WISH I could find those books!!! :(

Good luck finding them LR....hope the kids are searching too

I mostly use the library...but a book swap is a great idea. We have a local pub that has a book exchange - take them if you want to read them, and leave any books that you're done reading.

Where I used to live they had that, it was awesome. I miss that. This library doesn't do that, though they do have some awesome book sales sometimes.

Loved that video, CES! I'm still old school and am just comfortable holding onto a real book. I imagine someday I would be happy to have a reader but not till I get through the hundreds of books on my shelves. I go through spurts of what I want to read. Right now I'm into the Edwardian and Regency romances. Patricia Veryan combines the period with romance and mystery - my first love is mystery. My favorite books in my collection are the complete works of Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen. I don't quite have a complete collection of Agatha Christie. And I love Evanovich and Grafton! I read for escape and fun and could go on and on...:)
