Hey all,

I built my first dripper ever yesterday.... 10 wraps of 28awg Kanthal around a 1.5mm mandrel. It's at about 1.0 Ohms, and hits just fine on my hcigar Nemesis clone.

However, I was thinking it would be better to have larger coils - possibly 3mm inner diameter.

Would that even work? I'm assuming I would have to change the number of wraps to keep it at the same Ohms, but I'm willing to experiment.

It would just be nice to be able to have more cotton in there....

Has anyone tried that?

Thanks!

My normal coils in my igo-w's are generally 6 wrap duals around 5/64th drill bits. I use 26 gauge but if you used your 28, your resistance would be higher. I personally find a slightly larger ID does make for better wicking in a dripper while sub ohming at least. Flavor... I think it's more the gauge/heat that enhance it rather than the ID.

I have wicking issues with sub ohm microcoils in drippers, and yes they are wicked properly. My solution is to run a 3/32" spaced coil instead. Why spaced instead of touching (i.e. mini coil)? I actually don't like how it will concentrate and hold heat, and actually feel I get better results when the heat is distributed. I'll run microcoils all day in my clearos since they definitely benefit from the efficiency gains. Don't need it for 1.3 ohms and below IME.

I also tend to use a minimal amount of cotton (tail length) so less juice gets trapped in it.

I did this in my W a while back. Dual micro coils but large diameter.

First thing I noticed was the extended ramp-up time to get it to atomize the juice and produce vapor. it was very extended....

Second was the fact that the large coils produced so much heat that I could not even touch my lips to a steel drip tip after about 5-6 pulls. I absolutely had to use a delrin tip.

I say give it a shot if you like. Everything within reason is worth a try at least once :)
