Thought I should forward this. Has he contacted you. Hard to believe that all his equip. is breaking down.
i remember talking with him about it, but he didn't seem frustrated at all, He was very kind and gave some suggestions.

I really want to try one of these lazers. So whats the verdict on the protected batteries, which brand works best?

Hey Jaded.
Well, we have the protoypes out, but honestly, It's not looking good. So far the Silver Lpv are still superior, but they only accept unprotected batteries, which for the 10440 is not a bad thing. Unprotection matters heavily on stacking two of them on top of one another. From what my supplier was telling me, is that there is only one kind of 10440 that has True protection and that is the trustfire brand. I have received them today, but it seems a no-go with the laser's. I only have 2 laser's to test on and 1 fit smoothly and easily, the other did not. Protection adds significant size to a battery.

Its the Silver LPV that sparked my interest, I like the way it tapers off toward the atty, one of the best looking small mods I have seen.

Yes, those are unprotected. Mostly (my guess is All) 10440 that are used in e-cigs are 10430or 10440 both unprotected. The reason why the Trustfires are not fitting in accordingly is because of the pcb (circuit board built under the positive terminal) protection adds just a bit more room than that's needed. UNprotection with a single cell battery is fine. They have been used for decades. Unfortunately I have 40 of these Trustfires coming :(
You have 40 of the protected trustfires coming in?...I think you'll be able to move them quickly actually...
because the guy over at super t just designed his small mod specifically around the 10440 protected...he's still on preorders for the device but the people on that forum have been asking around where to get them...might want to send him a PM, since he doesn't stock/sell batteries for his mods he might be willing to point some people in your direction

I read somewhere that AW uses a different protection method, from my understanding, forcing the + button top to separate from the battery, breaking the connection if the heat or voltage gets beyond a cirtain point (like a fuse popping) instead of relying on a circuit board to monitor the voltage/heat, like on the Trustfire batteries.

I just want to find answers so we can stop going around on this issue, and can't seem to find anything solid.

That's specifically on the AW CR123 (that Iken is carrying now, btw) and it's in connection with the PCB (which is normally on the bottom of the battery) so those AW CR123 have the PCB under the negative end and the PTC under the possitive end.. the ptc blows out unter over temperature or over pressure conditions and seperates the + and - connection

I received my Silver Lpv a couple days ago, and let me tell you, I LOVE IT!!! I will be ordering more to give as gifts. (when you get more and I can get them before they are gone again :) ) It is very well built. I am not afraid to drop it in fear of it braking. I like the way the button clicks, it is a nice feature. All around nice little laser.

I have tried it with both protected and unprotected batteries, and they both work in it. The protected is a little tight but does fit. Also I have not had a problem with either type of battery.

Well just wanted to pass this on. And will keep you updated as I use this and put it through its paces...

I'm using the Ultrafire 10440 350mah protected from MadVapes in my 510 lazer, too. They work great! But, they don't fit in my 901 lazer. Don't know why. I am using the unprotected ones I got from Iken in that one and it works fine. These lazers are a really nice size, and have a good feel to them. Love it! Thanks Isaac.

I am using UltraFire 10440 350mAh 3.7V Protection Circuit. It works great. The end cap threads all the way on, no problems for me and I tried 4 different ones.

ADD: This is on the 510 laser!!
Ahh I see! Thank you Tiger! That was really cool of you :D I'll go ahead and source these types.

Hmmm, now thats very odd, because they're from the same body style. Ok, back to being stumped! lol I mean, really. AAA 10440 unproteced single cell (not stacked) isn't potentially dangerous as people think it is.
From flashlight forums that carry 100,000 members to Laser pointer forums that house 10,000 strong, prefers unprotected 10440 single cells over protected.

The rule of thumb is, if the vapor production and actual feel drops and you know that there is liquid in the atom, it's time to change batteries.

Edit: This isn't geared towards you at all Ash, just saying is all :D

It was pretty easy, I just had to use a C clamp to hold it, and did slightly put a dent in the thread, not enough to cause it not to go back on, but you might have to find a better way to secure it. Once I got the bit going, it went through pretty easy. I started from the inside of the cap. I feel a bit better about having it vented, though I am still not sure about these batteries. No problems YET but that is not something I want to find out the hard way. I read that if you bore out about 1mm with a larger drill bit, right where the + end meets the cap, it helps the protected batteries fit better. I might have to try that out too, just need a better clamp to hold the end cap with out messing it up.

I've got the 901/808 laser-1 and the protected are so tight that they press on the button area, forcing the housing to move enough that it will activate the ON mode, and the atty will just start sizzling away. The end cap has a point to where it won't stay on if it is not screwed down all or most of the way, when I tried several different protected ultrafires, they all had the same problem. Drilling out the end cap to make room makes sense to me, as long as you don't drill too much out. That extra mm or so of room should make the difference in how the protected ones fit hopefully. I will have to try it out. Luckily I have another one of the same laser pointers, that I had planned to mod, but I think I may have messed it up trying to remove the insides, not sure yet, but I do have an extra end cap in case my mods don't work on the original one.
