Minor update... My previous experience (I just received this thing Sat night) was with the battery removed and reinstalled. At that time, the display shows 3.0 in this "zombie" mode. It's not dead, but it's not alive either ;) it doesn't vape at that time.
However, once it's been turned on, voltage set, and turned off... yes, I can get the carto to fire. Weak as it is, it does work. You can hear the coils sizzle, so it's not leftover vapor.
Strange.

that is odd...think I will wait for that one to get sorted out before I pick one up...maybe a V1.5.2

I don't want to put anyone off these, because they are much better than the previous version so far, but if you are at all concerned about accidentally turning it on and running down a battery or possibly burning out an atty or carto, I would agree, wait. I accidentally turned one of mine on in Zombie mode (great term, BTW) in my briefcase this morning and it started hissing when I reached in for some paperwork. Not dangerous, but I'm a bit farther from comfortable now.

Just for experiment's sake, try unscrewing the batt cap just enough to break connection, then screw back together. This resets the "system". Mine no longer zombie fires after that. Granted it has to be turned on again and the voltage reset, but at least the carto won't fire.

Okay, I've changed the battery a few times since I noticed this, so I was a bit skeptical, but I'll be damned. You are right. If you change batteries or just interrupt the connection for a moment it will not Zombify when you power+plus. Instead, it blinks 3.0 when you try to fire it up. At this point, my particular problem is solved. I'll just unscrew/screw when traveling with them and reset the voltage before I vape. No biggie. Thanks very much for the info.

just a question...for those who are saying they get vape from one that is off...did you clear the carto and DT before you pressed the button? May sound like too simple, but you may just be getting vapor left in the tube.

I thought that, but no. Update: I was wrong, it doesn't seem to go into full power down at all. Not a big deal because I don't power it down.

Well... here's an interesting twist. Just for giggles I turned the LT up to 6.0v, and promptly turned it off. Still fires, but quite a bit hotter. I'm currently running a 1.7ohm single coil on it, so I'll admit I was a tad leery, but it does fire.
Perhaps this is meant to be a voltage lock of sorts? Or is it really a design defect? It didn't promptly burn the carto, so I don't think it fired @ 6v, but it seemed to be hotter than the zombie vape dialed at 3.2v.
Stranger and stranger.
I have an inexpensive multimeter (more than $10, less then Fluke), I'll break it out and test tonight.

I was going to do that myself last night, but the wife was laughing too hard at me trying to hold the leads and press the button at the same time. I'll reattempt tonight.
