Upon further research, I keep hearing that the threads are crap on a vamo. I really don't want to keep paying the $ over and over if I'm going to have to keep replacing it. Thoughts?

Threads are a weak point on Vamo and Evic.

They have survived plenty well enough on the SID (smok) mod.... but I'm not sure SID is free from troubles (nor is SVD either)

Nothing is 100% reliable. MVP is the least complained about (although the centre pin gets pushed down too easily, and it's a box)

IF I was choosing today, I'd either go Provari (yes, I know...kind of scary) or simply buy a cheap SID or Vamo on the "understanding" that it might only do 6 months. Better to get 6 months on a $50 device, than 5 on a $120 Evic.

I think you're right. If I had the $ I'd definitely go ahead with the Provari. It seems to be the grand poobah of them all, I haven't heard one negative yet! (aside from the price). But being a first-timer and all, if a $50 device breaks down on me I won't be too mad.

Well now I'm looking into the sid. What is a reputable online vendor I can order it from and what should I order with it? I'd like to have a usb charger if they make one for it. I know these might sound like no-brainer questions, but I'm TOTALLY new to all of this. I've seen a lot of people order their stuff from fasttech, but my sister in law ordered her mod from there and the shipping took 2 MONTHS! No thanks.

I really appreciate all your help and advice, it has been extremely helpful. I've wanted to quit smoking for a long time and pretty soon I won't have a choice (due to an internship at a hospital - cant smoke!). This has to happen!

I'm brand new to the forum but it seems like I was in your shoes a few weeks ago. I've been vaping for about 3 months. I started with a vision spinner but saw the lavatube and started saving for it immediately. When I actually got the money saved up I had seen so many other mods that I wasn't 100% sure I still wanted to spend my money on the lavatube. I spent many late nights reading reviews and watching you tube videos on different mods. I ended up going with the lavatube and I'm really glad that I did.

I thought I could offer you a few things I wish someone would have told me. First off let me say when I say lavatube I mean the one made by volcano. I've come to understand the term lavatube is used pretty loosely online to describe the knockoffs as often as it's used to describe the real thing.

I ordered the device and lanyard and a battery. I didn't get the whole kit. Reason being I didn't care about the tank or case or bottle of juice. If you don't want everything in the kit I'd order it separate. I almost didn't buy the lanyard but at 5 dollars I'm so glad I did. It makes it a lot easier when you take it out and about. The biggest and best surprise for me when I opened it is it wasn't near as big as I expected. All I heard in reviews was how huge it was and judging by the pictures it looked huge. Well, holding it in my hand it seems to be a perfect size. I don't think it would look right smaller. It's very comfortable to hold and the buttons seem so natural to operate. It might sound crazy but I love putting the battery in just because the threads feel so amazing. You can tell right away that quality was very important. All my tanks were kanger evods and one mini protank 3 so I had to get an adaptor to use them. The first adapter I got made my mini protank read 0.0 ohms so I had to trade it out.

I think the price is pretty good considering the quality of the lavatube. The first time you hold it you'll know exactly what I mean. My only complaint is you have to remove the adapter to clip on the lanyard. Won't be a problem when my protank 3 gets here. Also you might want to keep in mind volcano gives free standard shipping on 50 dollar orders and with 100 dollar orders you get free second day air. (Second day air was a 7.99 option. So I ordered the battery lanyard and the matching lavatube style drip tip. It brought my total to 101 and after placing my order on a Sunday night it was waiting at my house Wednesday after work. Pretty impressive considering I live in North Carolina.
