I think it's important to think of the metal and clears as two different lines in a sense...

My r5 clearos and metals both had fat wicks...
I think r6 is for clearos with fat wicks and thicker plastic on the clearo sleeves.

Two more batches past r5/6, no idea what they call them...

The black jacket on the ceramic cup doesn't go as far up anymore...so the wicks don't get squished or pinched against the sleeves as much.

They now send metal syringe needles in the box instead of those flimsy nylon ones.

That's the problem w/ the revision numbers, especially w/ 5 & 6. I don't think minor changes should be noted as a revision but certainly the fat wicks should have one.

lol @ 'br' ;)

Magnus, have another huge thank you! I really appreciate all the work you've done. Now to figure out if my clearos are really r4 or not... they have the nylon filler tool but I can't tell if they have ceramic or plastic inside them. Ah well. Doesn't sound like the amount of lead (if there is any) will kill me!

They haven't used plastic for the cup since r2 and never on clearos, so you have a ceramic cup.

It's solder in that picture not lead.

Ohh kay.... umm. Did you read the thread? It's obviously solder in the picture, his concern was that he thought it was a solder that contained lead which most certainly exists and was the norm for decades. And with the lead (and other) scares out of China wanted to be as sure as feasible we weren't dissolving and vaping lead. -Magnus

Considering it has already been found by Mangus though I'm not so sure that "a common composition table" matters to much here Buzz. Just saying,,,, What if some of the major Atty/Carto manufacturers are using the bad stuff, I know I would like to know about it and have a choice to use the manufacturer that wasn't using it

I was just pointing out the facts of MOST solder as a FYI that is all , the Chinese could be doing ANYTHING ???

Oh and BTW THANKS MAgnus for doing these tests YOU ROCK !!!

in my mind this test was very necessary - and thank you, magnus, for doing it - but it has very little to do with chinese manufacturing. unfortunately, no matter where in the world something is being made the matter of safety very often gets overlooked for the sake of profits or indifference.
we have enough of that right here in the states.

I agree that safety and QC gets dangeriously bad at times, but I'm not convinced it's all about greed and profits. More often than not, people just don't know any better. Good hearted and minded folks dash out in the world and try to start companies and build communities....doing the best they can with what they have in terms of workforce, facilities, contacts, and materials. It only takes one small mistake to bring it all to a grinding halt for good.

I've seen many a fine young company get shut down for things they never forsaw...were never warned about, etc. Then there's the ones who did know better and could not afford to strive for better conditions...so they just never set up shop period...the idea moved to another country or community with less red tape willing to take a risk or two and try to create something from the ground up...getting better one step at a time as they could afford to do so.

When ever a young company like this dies....it usually takes an entire town or two with it. Not just the men in suits in the castle on the hill. So it's not really all about greed and profits.

I'm pretty sure they stopped putting lead in solder like 10 years ago. Then again I could be wrong.
