Hello~
As I am new to ECF as well as vaping in general, I am finding it difficult to understand all I need to know. Is anyone else having this problem? I have been trying to find out all the options for devices and how/where to buy them and the batteries/chargers needed to run the systems. I don't know what all the lingo is to do a proper search. I have learned alot, but am racking my brain trying to use the proper term to search for a 4.7 or 5v battery. If I look for a rechargable ion Li on protected battery, I'm only finding the 3.7v. What am I doing wrong? Is there a place that breaks down all the info about what devices does what, what you need for each devices and then the lingo to which it's referred to by forums such as this?
Please help...I feel like i'm stuck in a town I've never been to and I don't know the language.
Feeling utterly lost~

Hi and welcome to ECF!

Most devices use 3.7V protected batteries, so that's why your searches are only returning those. There are also devices that use 3.0 or 3.2V batteries that are stacked to produce 6V.

The ECF Library would probably be a good place for you to start reading. "The Wonderful World of Vaping" is a six part thread that describes and explains what to expect from vaping. I highly suggest reading that first!

Good luck on your vaping journey!

When it comes to batteries, most of them are 3.7V anyway, with the exception of the LiFePo batteries, which are 3V and mainly used in a "stack" for 6V mods.

Usually, 5V and 6V mods will use something like 2 14350s or 18350s or whatever that get internally regulated down to 5V or 6V depending on the PV. A PV mod should tell you what batteries it can take. One of the more popular mods, the ProVari, uses a single 18500 or 18650 (with extended cap) and has some internal circuitry to boost that single 3.7V up to 6V at max power.

A good place to start is here: Frequently Asked Questions about Electronic Cigarettes. This will get you started on the lingo, basic models, and so on.

Here is some general info on batteries. This isn't exactly what you're looking for but you'll learn a bit about the different batteries and how they work.

Here is a place to look at reviews of different E-cig mods. It may take a little digging but if you have a specific model you're looking at and what to know more about it, you should be able to search on that model in this forum and get some of your questions answered, at least.

Note that you may not be able to access all of these forums until you have at least 5 posts, per forum rules. So if you have any specific question in mind about particular models or batteries please feel free to ask them here and we'll answer as best we can.

    in a cave, eh?
Unless you're interested in a mod, don't worry about the different battery sizes. The model you pick will dictate the battery type.

If you need something that looks like a cigarette, consider the Smokeless Image Volt. It's a KR808D-1 system if you're comparison shopping. The batteries are available in automatic and manual. With the manual batteries, you hold down a button while you inhale, but the draw is easier and there are less ways to fry the battery. A lot of people like the automatic batteries (more like smoking), but you must be careful to keep e-liquid and water out of the battery hole. Depending on how much you smoke, you may find yourself charging the batteries several times a day. A PCC is a nice addition to your kit.

If you're ok with something a little bigger, i.e about the size of a Sharpie marker, consider the Riva 510 from Liberty-Flights.com. The battery life is much better. Also nice additions to that kit are Boge LR or SmokTech dual coil cartomizers.

If you're looking for a mod, you might consider the variable volt Buzz Pro from NotCigs. It takes 16340 batteries (which I believe are the same as CR 123a bats).

Or, you might like a bottom feeder like the REO Grand. It takes an AW IMR 18650 battery. Or you can stack 2 3volt batteries (I believe 2 16340 batteries will work).

You should get the best battery life out of an 18650 (unless you stick it in a Provari). It also powers the 18650 E-Power.

If you go for a mod, just make sure you purchase enough accessories to make it work. They generally don't come bundled with the kit. I.e. mod, 2 or 3 batteries, atomizer, drip tip, cartomizers, dual battery charger.

When you purchase a kit, consider getting at least 2 batteries to put into regular rotation (standard with most kits) plus an extra for backup. Also consider an extra atomizer for backup.

Does this simplify things a little? Did you have any questions about other models like the Echo, Go Go, eGo-T, E-Power, etc.?
