Hi - I may be the newest of the noobs here at the moment.

My wife and I just got on the highway out of Analogville after spending most of our adult lives there. For me, it's been about 30 years and I have been at 1-1.5 packs a day for most of that.

We have quit several times in the past - as I'm sure many have. We've tapered off, we tried meds, we even used acupuncture with the staple in the ear thing. Oddly enough - that one worked fairly well. Maybe it was the fear of being re-stapled that kept us away. Last time, we switched to a brand that tasted nasty, and lost interest in them. Tried that this time, but it failed - we learned to like them. But as luck would have it, nobody in town had them the other day and we were about out. My wife remembered a kiosk in the mall and suggested we check it out. I thought - cool. (I know better now.)

So we set ourselves up with the Fifty-One Duo. Of course we went for a flavor that was sort of like what we were smoking. It worked too - we didn't crave all evening and felt better in the morning.

On day two, we both started to think that the ecigs were not tasting very good. But we hung in there. Later that night, I tried an analog for taste comparison. The analog tasted truly foul. That was good, but luck was about to get a lot better.

First, we found ECF. Information overload is a good thing, right? Well, no worries because I also discovered a store nearby that was all ecig. So we made it through the evening and the next day we headed to the store. They had juice... OMG did they ever have juice! I'm also a long time pipe smoker - so I thought anything other than natural tobacco flavor was inherently evil. But that was another world - because here, what you smell is what you taste! Awesome!

Needless to say, our grossly overpriced and under-performing look-alikes had to go. The staff was incredibly helpful and spend an inordinate amount of time explaining, clarifying, and letting us sample different flavors, strengths, and even hardware to an extent.

I suspect the cig look alike served a purpose, it got us to try vaping with something that felt familiar. So it wasn't a total waste of $160... For as long as we used them, it was only $80 a day, and there were 2 of us - so 40 bucks isn't that bad, right?

We left the vape store with eGo-T's, spare everything, a bag full of juice bottles and the hope for a brighter future - a future that doesn't include tobacco! Altho - I do have mixed emotions about those thousands of dollars worth of briar pipes and cellared aged tobacco... I probably won't like them any more either. :(

So anyway - how about saying something back that I can answer - I really want to get my post count up to where I can have a banner in my siggy that will track my progress - love those! LOL

We really are having a great time with this. Glad to hear that I'm not alone on the food replacement bit. :)

The pipe tobacco is a the only downer, really. I guess I could sell it if I can't stand it any more. I am holding on to the hope that everything I have cellared is 'natural', so no added flavorings, or even humectants in most cases. So there never was a chemical taste like with cigs.

It's funny how things turn around. In the pipe world (well, my part of it anyway) PG was the mark of something to avoid. Now here I am, happily vaping 70% PG LOL

That's interesting about the pipe tobacco. I'm sure it's better to stay away from all burning substances, but if you ever had a slip-up, that would be the way to do it.

Look around for some threads about PG and VG. Some of us have an allergy to one or the other, so there are some really interesting bits of info around here.

If you were trying to avoid PG in the pipe tobacco, did they use a different preservative or humectant?

No, PG is the primary one used. It is used on what are commonly referred to as "bulk blends". They're bought in huge bags and put out a bit at a time in jars for sale. It's also used on the so-called "drug store" blends. Really enhances shelf life, but tends to gunk up a pipe. Briar is a a tad more porous than stainless steel. ;) I've known a few people that had allergic reactions to PG, burning it sure doesn't seem to help - the symptoms are the same as I have seen listed around here, vaping it.

The other alternative is sealed tins of tobacco - No preservatives usually used - but way more expensive. Those are the kind that can be aged, like aging wine in some cases.

The cool thing about vaping is that I get to enjoy the flavor - unlike aromatic tobacco. With that, everyone in the room gets to smell the room note of it - the smoker only tastes burnt flavorings and low quality leaf. Not that way with 'natural' ones though. I am looking forward to trying some of the natural tobacco liquids I have seen mentioned, the way people describe them in reviews seems to follow very closely with how the actual leaf represented when I have smoked it in the past.

So far I have seen descriptions by vapers that fit for Virginia, Burly (probably Green River), and maybe even Perique. If so - that would be amazing - I could "vape a Va/Per" lol (Virginia blend, seasoned with a condiment tobac - Perique). Hoping to explore those juices soon-ish.

Hey MC,

I spend some time In Panama City Beach every year. What's the name of the Vape shop there?

I wasn't sure if I could mention it by name, being new here and all, but I'm sure if it isn't OK, I will hear about it. LOL

The name of the place is Smokin'Vapors. It's at the corner of Joan Ave and Thomas Drive, in that little shopping center there next door to the winery.

Check them out when you're in town - definitely cool people!

Hey Michael, congrats to you and your wife for the switch. :)

I know the Vapenstein collection from want2vape Premium USA E Liquid is designed by a pipe lover for tobacco enthusiasts. I preferred cigars myself, but the pipe aficionados really seem to dig on the flavor called London. I'm an Alcazar or Managua fan. Loved those maduros.

The want2vape.com tobaccos are house extracted, so you get some really nice genuine tobacco flavor. As a vendor, shipping is quick, prices are fair, and product is above average.

Good luck with your journey. :)

Thank you for that, Newbz!

If it's really possible for eyes to light up - mine just did!

If you check out ECF user Vapenstein, you'll find quite a few of his threads about the science and art of e liquid preparation. He also has a vaping website of his own. Just Google 'Vapenstein' to find it. He also has a pipe blog called Cake and Dottle.

Good luck. ;)

Congratulations to you and your wife Michael! You may also want to see if you have a Vapors club in your area. I'm going to my first one next weekend. I am so excited!

Welcome to vapeville, Michael. Good for you for making the switch...here in Phoenix, we have vape meet ups once a month...we get together at local brewhouse, have a few drinks, eat lunch, sample flavors and check out everyone's latest vape gadgets....lots of fun....hopefully there's something similar in your area....
Good luck to you guys....

I'm going to have to check with the Vape store - if there isn't one, they may be interested in helping get word out to get something going.

The store already has an informational handout (and it's on her website) of the popular restaurants in the area that are Vape-friendly and she seems to actively promote vape-awareness in the area.

So if you're on vacation in Panama City Beach, be sure to check which of the local hotspots welcome vapers!

Welcome and congrats on the switch! Vaping really is a vastly different world that still manages to feel like familiar territory. But it's much healthier (if not actually healthy) territory, and it tastes and smells worlds better. I was a 21 year smoker, tried the gum, inhaler, even cold turkey. But the amount of willpower I have is on the wrong side of zero, so none of it worked the slightest bit. Plus, I liked smoking, even as I hated what it was doing to me. But the very first puff I took of my very first PV (a standard eGo) literally changed my life in an instant. I didn't want to smoke. I didn't need to smoke. It was beyond amazing. Even after all this time I am still astounded at how well at works and how little I want a cigarette, which I would quantify if there was a word for "less than not at all."

Of course, now begins an entirely new addiction all its own: Juice. So. Many. Flavours. And if you are so inclined, different devices, mods, cartomizers, etc. But that's something I don't mind one bit, because it's very hard for me to spend on juice and new hardware in one month what I spent on cigarettes, so no matter what, I'm still far ahead of the game.

I hope you enjoy your new eGo-Ts. I think you will have no trouble quitting the coffin nails for good this time. As for the pipes and tobaccos? Build a little in-home museum for them. You can give small tours and show everyone what people used to do to their lungs in less civilized times...

Hey, Mike, and a very warm welcome!

I did see the Fifty-One kiosk at the PC mall, and after I asked for prices, the insane price tag just floored me. LOL, I remember pulling out my 901 with a CE2 clearomizer and getting a surprised and amazed look from the guy working there and a nice woman who was asking about their e-cigs. 100 USD for their smallest kit and almost 200 for the standard... just insane.

I have gone to the Smokin' Vapor store, and they are just great people. The prices are a little high, so I honestly have never shopped there, but I have gone in to window shop and talk to the people there and they are all very nice. Very knowledgeable and friendly, and the owner is a true lady.
