Well to answer that, why do companies put an indicator light on anything? So you know it is working, it aids in troubleshooting the system. If the light illuminates you know the battery is working, also the blinking light indicates a charge is needed. With out any indication such as these, how would you know if things were working properly when a failure occurs? Next the power consumption of the LED's are almost ingsignificant compared to the amount of power required to heat the atty coil. Considering an single led light can last appox 24 hours on a 3v battery I would say you might lose a puff or two from the 250-300 puffs you normally get. I do no think it is that much of an impact to worry about IMO.
Hope this helps
Dan
