I've been playing with the idea of using supermarket flavors. Only one I've found so far that I'm interested in is 'Pure Lemon Essence' from Nielsen-Massey Vanillas in the good ol' USA. Ingredients are listed as Alcohol 85%, Oil of Lemon 10%, and water.

I've evaporated the alcohol off, and I presume I've lost most of the water too cos it's sooo gloopy. Mixed @ 0.5% it gives a lovely fresh zesty lemon flavor even with high VG,

However, on another forum a member has questioned whether it's actually safe to vape. tbh, I've been enjoying this vape all day and nothing out of the ordinary.

Is it recommended to NOT vape these 100% natural oils. I was assuming a lot of the citrus flavors already being used are based on the extracted oils, but I can always be wrong. Any pointers/data anywhere?

Would be good info for the n00bs too.

Everyone has different opinions on vaping flavors with oil in them. The lungs are able to evaporate water. Not so with oil. So, I choose not to use flavors containing oil.

Matter of fact, back when I first started vaping, there was a thread here at ECF that listed flavors that contained oil and were thought to not be safe for vaping.

The only reason I wonder is that I think that contains a lot of terpenes, which could be a potential issue long-term. Citric acid, the other component, is pretty harmless in small quantities.

Not that terpenes are bad for you, per se, Vitamin A is one. But chronic inhalation wouldn't be the best idea I've heard recently.

Ah, penny drops. Limonene. Brings up another point. If juice manufacturers do use citrus oils, have the oils been pre-treated to remove/alter terpenes? The amount of limonene in citrus oils is really quite high, usually >50%.

Terpenes are also found in cinnamon oil, vanilla oil, clove oil, and essential oils extracted from other fruits/flowers. Because of this they're commonly found in air fresheners and perfumes, and of course aromatherapy oils.

I found http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/175730-red-flag-going-up-vaping-oils.html. Nothing definitive, but some interesting points. A thing of real interest in there is the list of oils , which I'm not gonna coffee/pasta here due to it's size.

Gonna carry on carrying on until some solid scientific evidence that can't be countered is placed before me. After all, I've been vaping natural Anise oil since day one.
