Just curious to see if anyone has a really beat up Reo they still use. You know, maybe your work is in a rough environment so your Reo suffers but still keeps on vaping. Maybe even an older mod with abnormal wear. Call it environmental patina

I have dropped mine a couple of times already but it did not even get damaged.

My beaten and bruised Kawasaki green door, modified for a different light weight look. I like the look with some raw aluminum peeking thru, I might just take it all the way down to raw later on. I just did random hole sizes in a sequence for the pattern. Some holes are miss aligned cause the drill moved, but I still think it looks alright.

Yeah, I'm just gonna finish the door later on, I'll rock it like this for a while before that happens though. There's no way the grand itself will ever get stripped to raw. I love the green color, I figured it's a door and if I mess it up oh well. I have another door that it's been wearing lately and it's a silver vein.

I didn't even think about adding red to it, I've got a rattle can of red metallic left over from a different project. Maybe...I'll have to think about it.

Anyway, just finished drilling the door some more. I drilled the smallest holes out to match the largest. I originally drilled with three sized bits, it looked ok but I changed it to just two sizes. I think this makes it look a little better. Then I wet sanded it smooth again.

Sorry, no beaters here... I've never dropped any mod, scratched any mod, etc. All 36 of mine still look as good as the day I bought them all the way back the first bought about 20 months ago.

Now if you were asking about all the other things I have dropped... well, the pictures would fill several photo albums. :)

Here is my beater .........

Its been used every day for 3 years and 2 months (minus 8 days in Jamaica)

Its been dropped and banged around more than I would like to admit. Its a lot darker than it used to be but really there is not a mark on it. Its been to mountain tops in summer and winter dozens of times. Its been boating at least 8 times, and did a nice canoe trip last summer.

I'm convinced if it had been a metal REO it would have many more signs of ware :)

I'm so paranoid about the possibility of dropping my mods that it borders on OCD. When I'm someplace with hard floors, like tile or concrete, I carry them like raw eggs. I have yet to drop a mod, whether it be a Reo or a tube mod (knock on wood...Oh wait...I don't have a Woodvil yet...So I can't knock). I'm ok with natural patina and wear, but dings and dents are a no no.

I'm Jealous! I wanted so bad to make my KOA woody my all day daily driver but paid the price. Dropped a couple of times and now has a few cracks near the catch cup. Also the doors on both mine and my ladies PurpleHeart/Birdseye maple woodies have warped and don't sit flush anymore. :( I'm assuming from moisture and/or humidity. How in the heck have yo avoided cracks & warpage all this time????? I'm assuming some woods are alot more resilient than others?

Many of the oily/resinous woods are not affected much by humidity, some even water, and Rob does use some of them. Your Purpleheart and KOA are among them, but with both species how resilient/stabile depends on what grade of wood it is. Birdseye is a relative term as it can occur in a few different maple species... but if Rob uses Sugar Maple it would hold up to humidity better than the other maple species that can form birdseyes.

As for personal experience with my Woodvil's, the only one I have with possible same wood as yours is my walnut/birdseye 14500 that was bought unused but from Hawaii. It was near impossible to slide the door until a couple of days after it got here on the desert. Some of the walnuts are very stable, some nearly as, some not so much so, but the issue was more likely the door. I haven't bothered to try to figure out which species of maple the door is...

The above from mostly hobby but also commissioned crafting many dozens of wood species from around the world in higher grades for over 50 years.

Originally a hammertone, 4 sides of the body have been tripped back, filed down to LP, some file marks left

I sort of feel guilty b/c I got her second hand and there is the sense of potentially not caring properly for a mod that was kept pristine by Ian444 [seriously like new] I should send him a xmas card. I do look after it, just in a rough love way

You guys talking about not dropping your mods, lol I just accidentally dropped mine today. This was the first time it took a big spill, and I was worried I messed it up. I was talking to some of my guys in a hanger and went to place it in my pocket. It missed my pocket and fell and bounced off the tip of my steel toe boot and then hit the floor and slid like 10 feet. The door stayed on, and everything stayed inside, the atomizer cap came off when it hit the floor. Everything was fine though, I just picked it up and cleaned it off and put the top back on and it worked like a champ. I did notice the back has a few small scratches but you really have to be looking in order to even tell they are there. The paint seems to be pretty tough and pretty resilient to scratches.

just the 510 you have to watch if you drop it on the attie, one of my connectors is slightly picky after a big spill and probably 1 in 7 atties won't go on
