Bear with me here... How the heck do I know what it's made of?

I guess it's worth a shot. I'm completely grossed out. I took it apart and sniffed it and it smells like straight up DF. So remove o rings and assume everything besides the glass/plastic (who knows what it is) tank? Just simmer for a few minutes?

Sounds about right , there could be some machine oil stuck in there somewhere , you might wanna bring it to a full boil and and do it a couple of times with fresh water each time .

I'll have you know tossing 4 mls of 2 month old DF almost brought a tear to my eye :( So... The crap .... clones glass tank isn't removable. So I shouldn't boil it right?
No , I doubt the tank is tempered pyrex , just give the tank a good soak with Dawn , boiling might crack it .

Ok, the tank is in a bath (which I did before first use). The rest is coming to a boil. Absolutely gross brown crap swirly around. I'll do this till the water is clear. How disgusting!!! No wonder it tasted awful.

Yet another learning curve to conquer!

You sure this isn't another "collector tank" type issue? Does the Squape have one? I don't think I've ever watched it in action.

April, you should be able to distinguish between metallic and non metallic parts. If you boil non-metallic parts you will melt them or otherwise ruin their properties. I don't know the Squape so you're going to have to figure out how to disassemble it such that you are left with two different piles. How far you can strip it down I do not know. I don't know that atty.

Boil for 20 minutes or more. MP told me this a couple years ago on an atty he sent me that had the same problem and it worked perfectly.

Yes I can distinguish metallic vs non metallic. I've got it stripped down as far as I can. 20 min... Got it.

There is some space under the exchangeable deck that juice could get trapped in.

That should be rinsed out thoroughly with ever wick change, April. There should be no brown crap coming out of the base when you boil it. :(

I think you've got the answer dust... I gave it a rinse but didn't remove the deck. I'll finish the boil and try it again.

Thanks! You guys are so smart :)

Separate out as much of the parts as you can to maximize the metallic-only pile so you can boil it. The more stuff you can boil the better.

I'd dine on one of his meals and feel totally confident I was getting high quality food. I didn't say anything, but if I was going to Nola and visiting retic I would make him cook for me. And I wouldn't ask. I'd tell him. :D
Actually I was gonna offer , we'll get around to discussing the menu . :)
