TCR is an acronym for "temperature coefficient of resistance." All metals have one. In general, the higher the temperature of a metal, the more resistant it is to electrical current. Some metals have more than others; some metals have a very even response to temperature (a "flat TCR curve") while others have spikes and valleys. Temp Control wires are selected from among those metals with a flat TCR curve. The mod works by measuring resistance in the coil wire. As temperature of the coil increases, so does its resistance. The mod can tell how hot the wire is by how much this resistance increases, using the wire's TCR as applied through an algorithm. A mod that allows you to enter the TCR code is giving you a way to "fine tune" the TC vape, because different alloys of the same metal exhibit different TCRs. Thus, a mod with a "TC-SS" mode must use a single TCR for all grades of Stainless Steel wire, unless you can enter the various codes to match the wire you are actually using; that is, a mod with a stainless mode set up for 304 will not be accurate if you use 316 or 316L or 317, etc. Entering the proper code fixes this problem. How easy this is to do varies by mod and firmware version. Here's a chart of the common wire TCRs:

Awesome thanks for the chart and your knowledge regarding TCR. Cheers man!

Couple points. No matter what don't cheap on your batteries.
I'd go LG-HG2's, Samsung 25R's, or Sony VTC4 or 5. Rumor has it many Sony's are counterfeit, so be careful who you purchase from.

They beauty of SS and Temp Control, is that SS is the only one that is safe to run in straight wattage mode as well.

316 and 316L are different, but so close you shouldn't notice.

Temp control has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR BUILD, IT IS WIRE SPECIFIC. You really should not be adjusting it on your own because YOU/I don't know what we're doing (Unless you have a thermocouple/probe).

If your mod is jumping out of TC, check your mod. Check all the connections, your build, your 510.

I am not trying to cheap on my batterys, I know exactly what you mean. But can you help me find a website that is going to give me the "cheapest price" on safe batterys that I need. I have come to conclusion that I am going to get the IStick 100W I think. I want max MAH's for battery life. If you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Also one more thing. What do you mean by SS being the only wire to be safe running in wattage mode?

SS wire is the only wire that can be used safely in BOTH Temperature Control AND Variable Wattage.
Wire like Nickle and Titanium can only be ran in TC mode.

    Cheapest "Reliable" Source for LG HG2 3000mAh 20A CDR 18650's as of now LG HG2 18650 Battery Genuine & Tested - 20A 3000mAh - Flat Top - Wholesale Discount

    Illum is out of stock.
Will 20 amps be enough. Like I don't build super low ohms or nothing, but I assume this will be good enough for me. I will probably be building around like .2 or .3 for my first build on an rta. I am not one of those crazy cloud chaser competition guys buy I will build where i can chuck some clouds definately.

I assume that the flat tops are the batterys that I am going to need for the Istick 100 watt

Also can you help me find an RTA that i can do dual coil and single coil builds on? Like I was interested in the griffin because everybody is raving about it but it looks to be dual coil only.

The Griffin 25 has a small ceramic adapter that fits in it for single coil use. It channels the air from one of the two air holes over to the other side of the posts so it flows over the coil.

thank you for telling me what the acronym TCR stood for and explaining what it is. Now, how do I determine what mod offers it? I have an sx mini m class. I got it a year a go with all the rage of TC and nickel wire. I don't like using nickel and I have stopped using it. I want to use ss 316L wire for my coils and I'm looking for a mod to use with it. Currently, looking at a kanger top box mini 75w.

How is easy: read the advertising and the forum threads about it. In addition to the Topbox, the Evic VTC has it, as does the RX200 and the Koopor Plus, respectively the best buys in the 3 and 2 battery, high watt mod department at this time, IMHO.

thank you. I have read the advertising and forum threads and haven't found them mentioning whether the mod had TCR mode or not, but it may be me. I'm not interested in a 2 or 3 battery mod at this time, so those won't work. Topbox works for me because of its size and it's nice to know it has TCR mode. Have a great day.
