If you are leaving your e-liquid containers sit open to age the flavor – what is happening is that you are loosing the nicotine.

I once did organic farming. Nicotine is one of the very few pesticides allowed in organic farming. The reason is that it dissipates quickly. You can spray you plants today and it will kill insects by the droves on contact. Tomorrow you can pick the plants and eat them and there will be no trace of nicotine left.

Nicotine is bitter-tasting see:
Nicotine (PIM)
3.3 Physical properties Molecular weight: 162.26 Nicotine is a liquid alkaloid. It is water soluble and has a pKa of 8.5. It is a bitter-tasting liquid which is strongly alkaline in reaction and forms salts with acids. 3.4 Other characteristics Store at room temperature, below 86 F (30°C). Protect from light and air.”
I kept reading on this forum that it will improve the flavor of your eliquid if you let it age. Mine did not seem to. But, recently I read a couple of post where people were letting them age uncovered. And it hit me that of course that would improve the flavor because no nicotine would mean no bitterness.

Another thing – back in old days (1970’s) when I was doing this we would buy a bottle of concentrated liquid nicotine in a dark bottle and would only have to add a couple of teaspoons to a gallon of water in the sprayers for it to kill bugs. It came in dark glass bottles and would last years as long as it was kept covered.
