I've been doing extensive research for the last couple weeks, and have spent enough time on this forum (So informative!) that I figured I should join. So, for everyone who is on here helping everyone with their questions, BIG thumbs up! Muchas gracias, much appreciated!

Now, I understand the sort of frustration that comes with having posts and questions repeated, but I truly have not seen my specific question answered YET, so hopefully I can get some help!

Situation: Got my husband an e-cig for Christmas, and he absolutely loves the thing, so much that we are actually talking about starting up a business down here in the middle of nowhere desert. ANYWAY, so we thought we would monkey around with trying to make e-juice. We ordered a small amount of stuff, just to give it a whirl, and while I've found the answer to almost every other question I could EVER have about DIY e-liquid, I have ONE questions: How do I determine what the base strength of my liquid nicotine is? It says it is 99% pure, does that mean it is 99mL/mg/whatever measurement is on all the calculators?

That could just be it, I could be overthinking everything, but I want to be extremely careful when mixing this stuff, for the safety of everyone. My husband will try anything we make for an extended period of time until I am comfortable that my product is safe, but I woud like it to be safe for him as well ;)

Any other e-juice tips you feel fit to let me know, starting out, etc, would be absolutely fantastic and welcome. Thanks so much, everyone!

Closing this thread- 99% nicotine is deadly poison and requires a proper lab plus hazmat gear to safely handle. - OS

Great tips above. I think the main thing is, don't rush this! I'd suggest taking all the time you need to study it before making my first DIY purchase. Don't be intimidated by it... I'm new at this stuff & make some pretty passable (and occasionally downright *good*) juice, so the basic process isn't too complicated. But leave yourself no room for error, especially regarding nic content. You will find remarkable resources on ECF to guide you through this. Congrats to your husband, and welcome to ECF!

also a 99% nic refers to 99mg nic per ml = highly dangerous and will kill by nic OD if a fair amount lands on ur skin. (nic is transdermal)/
proper protective equipment is a must for that concentration.
And the 2nd link above is a good test for nic lvl after u mixed a bottle of sample. keep those equipment clean too if u r going to sell. hygiene is very very important.

As a biochemist reading this thread scares the crap out of me. 99% has nothing to do with the mg/mL of your nic base. My suggestion is to keep that bottle sealed and learn a lot more before you start making anything for home use and don't even consider selling homemade juice for a LONG time. This is one reason I rarely buy or trade juices with other DIYers. While it is nice to get into the hobby and make you own juice, this is the very reason that 100mg nic should not be as readily available to every Tom, ...., and Harry with an internet connection. Please be careful, you are dealing with a TOXIC chemical.

With that rationale of thinking 99% would be 999mg/ml as 100mg/mL is a diluted strength from pure nic.

First- Mixing your own juice is an inherently hazardous practice. As already stated, nicotine can absorb through your skin with some areas of your body being more absorbent than other areas. Nicotine juice 100 mg/ml (that's 10% nicotine) is dangerous enough that responsible vendors won't even sell it to people who they know to be new to mixing their own e-juice. If you do not 100% know what you are doing, stop now. There will be plenty of time for DIYin' your own juice at a latter date.

Second - discussing nicotine solution stronger than 100mg/ml on this forum is against forum rules.

Oh my gosh, that sounds so dangerous.

Please, please turn that bottle in to poison control. Yikes!

If I were you, I'd start out by buying unflavored nic liquids in different strengths like 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, and 24mg, and some flavors and mixing up nice recipes from those. Good luck on discovering blends you enjoy. Until then, do a ton of research by buying some already-invented awesome flavors and seeing how they work.
