List of MOD coverters for newbs :)

OK so it's izdalion again asking for mod veterans to help the newb's and soon to be newb's put together a list of converters and possibly some user friendly schematics that most newbs can use in there voyage to the wonderful world of Modding. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do but after tons of research and questions. I'm sure all of you know what that feels like and the frustration that brings.
So without further ado lets get started

Well, I can speak on 2:

MV's Rev 2 NCP 630A, $8 (you get everything to make a modual) It's a linear reg. great for keeping your hands warm and ploughing through batts, but it works...wiring schematic is on the MV blog

Murata Power's OKR T/6's from Digikey, $8 (*switching) You get just the reg. so you'll need to either mount it on a chunk of perf board or do some tricky soldering, you need a 220 ohm resistor and a 200 ohm trimmer to adjust and a 10k ohm drain so you can use a NO switch...runs cool at about 95% eff (depends on the load)...wiring schematic, search Mamu's Denali or http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/191607-easy-okr-t-vv-mod.html?highlight=okr

I have a LM2577 boost module (eBay) that I used with an eBay GTL "3000mAh" 18650 batt; couldn't get more than 4.9V out of it with this batt. It might perform better with and AW high drain batt.

Hey Vert!

Just one of the converters is needed to make a VV. The LM2596 module off of eBay (be sure it will output 2-3A) is nice in that it has all the 'external' components on the module: capacitors, resistors, inductor, etc. With one of these modules you only need a switch, atty connector, batteries and a box to put it all in for a VV mod.

If you use a LM2596 and you have a 5volt input at .6 amps, is that enough or does it need more amps to run vv from 3.7-6 and output 2 amps? Or does the amps not matter? Also, what is the stepping of these units?

You need at least 2amp input. The specs on the LM2596 are:

Input voltage:4.5-40V

Output voltage:1.5-35V(Adjustable)

Output current:Rated current is 2A,maximum 3A

The input voltage always 1.5v greater than the output voltage.

If you only have 5v going in you will only get 3.5v out.

oh ok..so if im gonna use this LM2596 module...my problem is doing the wiring also what will be the range output of volt for this module? sorry newb here

By all means no expert here, but I think I have the wiring down for this VV mod. Here's the schematic I drew up. You can also add a switch or button to turn the display off by running the red wire to the button/switch and then to the positive of the board. The battery box has an on/off switch.

oh ok..so if im gonna use this LM2596 module...my problem is doing the wiring also what will be the range output of volt for this module? sorry newb here

range is between 0 - 8.4V as a full charge of battery, and works with 2 battery connected in series.

I use this same schematic except I put the switch between the (+) out of the regulator and the atty connecter.

True, but as you can see the red wire goes to the + of the board.
