Just want to say thanks to all for taking the time to post the drawings which helps me a great deal as im no modder but can follow wires to + and - and also can solder.
Im thinking of ordering the LM2596 to have around and eventually place in a box with either 2-14500 battery's or 2 18650 battery's still unsure.
Does that chip need a series or paralel battery setup and could someone explain that to me whats the difference between them.
Thanks

Edit: i see battery boxes on ebay for the 18650 battery that holds 3 of them , so does the person just disable one and use that for the chip set and wires.

Everyone's a modder Dieseler...if you own a roll of duct tape, guess what...

...the LM2596 is a buck reg so you want to put your batts in series (wire them so that the pos of one connects to the neg of the other that way the the voltages of the batts add up, 3.7 + 3.7 = 7.4)...you're one hard core dude to vape at 7.4v but when you wire that into the LM2596 reg input you can adjust it ("buck" it) down to say 5V or so...

...some guys (myself included) sometimes wire batts in parallel for DC (dual coil) carto's (wire them so the pos's of the two (or more) batts are connected, same thing with the neg's)...what you've done there is essentially doubled the capacity of your solitary batt...voltage is still only 3.7v but you've doubled the current output of what one batt can do and that set up will last twice as long as one batt would (this is all on paper of course, but that's the theory:))

Just wanted to add, batt boxes come pre set up in either a parallel or series configuration (or a combination of both), I wish the manufacturers would just give you a baggy of connectors but I digress, if you see a box you like (1, 2, 3, 4 batts, whatever) don't be afraid to grab it, I'm always pulling the batt connectors out of these boxes and re-jigging them to suit what I'm building, I just recently got two of the boxes used by Mamu for the Denali's (I'm gonna rip off the design cause it's good and that's how I roll, LMAO) but one of them is gonna be a parallel 18650 set up and one is gonna be a series vv

Good stuff Q!

Here's a pic on batteries in series and batteries in parallel. Just remember: in series add the voltages, mAh stays the same as one battery; in parallel add the mAhs, voltage stays the same as one battery.

Ah ha ...lol.. i have like 4 rolls of duct tape scattered in the garage and in the shed out back.

I see what your saying for the most part, out of curiosity i looked inside my madv box i soldered up and did not realize the battery configuration .

There like Toms first drawing as there is a metal plate running across touching the ends of both 14500 batteries and there installed + and - sitting next to each other.
Thanks Tom for that drawing. :)
Thanks Quig for being patient with me and the explanations.

Its all slowly coming together i do like the denali toggles and also a volt meter.
Little by little im learning .
Thanks again for everyones help. :)

PS: I did just to see what it was like and double stacked 2 -18350 battery's in my megalodon and took a normal hit off it.
Oh gosh i thought my tonsils came out.

Thank you, guys, for this excellent topic. I put a link on my russian forum. Great reference.
ontheset also gave a link to real booster: Mini DC to DC Converter Boost Step Up Module Wide Voltage Input 2.5-25V to 3-25V | eBay
Should work if we don't overload the board...

I think, this topic should be attached. Very helpful and informative.

I use this board as charger for li-ion. Works.

Hi Iz,
i think this thread is great for some of us new to this, i do not understand a lot about electricity but its nice when someone post a diagram as i can follow wires to where they go and do soldering which then i can make a vv mod .

What helped me gain some confidence was putting that madvapes vv box kit together , at first the instructions looked like my spaghetti on the Sunday dinner table.
Now its easier for me reading this thread looking at these diagrams.

One thing that scares me to this day and im a older fella that does not scare very easy is electricity.
Short story
One day i bought a dimmer switch per my ole stubborn wifey's suggestion for the dining room.
So i asked her to go downstairs and switch the dining room circuit breaker off.
Me "is it off now"
Wifey "It's off honey"
Me "thanks"
Me 5 seconds later " ouch ouch ouch plus a few choice words i dare not say here.
that ZAP made what little hair i have on my head stand up at attention. :)

I'll get her back one day.

With nothing on it just for size the one in the middle is the madvapes v1 you cant buy it anymore
but i had one and the one on the right is one off ebay its kinda big i put a quarter and a 510 atty and a drip tip
in for scale

The best dc/dc convertor i've used is the Ti ptr08100w. using 2x18650 batts in series 2 x 100uf 10v caps 1 on input 1 on output 220 trimmer and 200 ohm 1/4 watts resistor all mounted on a 5x5 pcb as per breaktru scematic for the copper mod. I've housed it in a 2 x parallel 18650 box converted to series used an ego-t with the lead behing the original switch. Ego-t is all 510 atty friendly. Then wrapped it in Maroon 3d cabon fibre vinyl...... Best device i've ever built and used .
Hope you enjoy, all credit goes to breaktru for the circuit Thanks Dave

There is a surface mount version of the OKR-T That is nice and small. I can't remember the part number right now but digi-key had it on their site. I think it might be referenced in the easy OKR-T thread listed toward the beginning of this thread.

I have been meaning to get one to play with but haven't gotten around to it yet.
